check-raising the turn is a strong, reliable, powerful, effective, and highly efficient move.i deposited $100 into caribbean sun poker to take advantage of their $50 bonus. unfortunately, the lowest limit they offer is $1/2, and i've never played that high.so i'm two-tabling $1/2, playing a little scared since this is my first time at this level. to make things worse, the loosest table on this damn site is 39% flop percentage. the table sees a flop once every three hands or so (blind stealing or just raising and everyone folding is extremely frequent pre-flop), and even when the table sees a flop, the table sees a showdown a fraction of the time. the tables are super tight/aggressive, and while i realize this is terrible game selection, i'm just doing it for the bonus.so i'm down about $20 after two or three rough hands, both due to bad luck as well as a little fancy play syndrome (pushing too hard to pick up the pot out of position after i raise AJ in EP and miss the flop). so i decide that i'm going to tighten up quite a bit and adapt to the aggressiveness of the table post-flop.so i fold every hand for a couple of rounds, and i finally pick up A-A UTG on one table ("finally!" is my only thought). i raise and get two callers (very surprising). the flop comes A-x-x, i bet, player A raises, player B folds, i call with the intent of check-raising the turn. and boy, does that work beautifully. that earned me a nice pot.then, a few minutes later, i pick up 7-7 in MP on the other table after two people limped (again, surprising and out of the ordinary), and the button limps behind me. the flop comes down A-7-x, checked to me, i bet, button raises, one person calls, i call with the intent of check-raising the turn. and again, it earns me a beautifully nice pot.next, i get A-K in MP and am able to effectively check-raise for value against A-10 on a flop of A-x-x.here's the best part though...two hands after A-K, i get A-Q in EP and raise. only the button cold calls, and we take the flop heads-up. it comes down jack-high, i bet out and get called. when the turn doesn't help, i check with the intent of folding, but the same person i check-raised earlier checks behind me! the river brings a lovely Q, i bet, get called, and win against A-J who gave me a free card.so, i've learned first-hand the value of check-raising on the turn on an aggressive table. it gets you free cards when you need it, and it gets you more value than three-betting on the flop, etc.thanks, wrto.aseem

Did yall know that *I* invinted the check/raise? True story.I also invinted the bet/call-bet/raise-bet line when you have a set against a very aggressive opponent. It doesn't give the free card that a check/raise on the turn will and allows you to get in 3 bets on the turn. Serious.

haha no, but we had a thread about this a while ago, and he advocated it (he wrote a thing about it in his blog, too).but he's right, he DID invent the bet/call - bet/raise - bet line. :D aseem
