It might work this time. With Anaheim close to the cap already and Getzlaf and Perry becoming RFA's next season Burke has to think long and hard about this one. signing Bertuzzi for 4 mill a year was probally a mistake leaving himself open for such a move. Better hope Bobby Ryan is ready to step up.

Anaheim will match.
When I go to a fast food restaurant, and my order comes to $6.28, I like to give the cashier $18.71. They look at me and say 'What's this?' and I say 'I'm all in'. They usually fold.

This is not surprising at all. I'm betting Scott Niedermayer's decision to retire is finally made public and the Ducks match the offer to Penner.

I haven't seen this kind of mad overspending since the first 30 minutes of the FCHL auction!

If the Ottawa Senators win the Cup:

- I will donate $200 to the Daniel Alfredsson clown academy
- I will not watch hockey for a a period of 12 months
- I will wear a Senators jersey and say I am a Senators fan while walking up and down Yonge Street
- I will praise the city of Ottawa and their fine hockey team for a period of 1 year
- I will acknowledge that hell has finally frozen over
- I will cancel LeafsTV and NHL Centre Ice Package
- I will also give my fantasy team for a total of one year to an associate

The Ducks have to keep Penner, Getzlaf, and Perry together. Neidermeyer will retire and the Ducks will be fine.

As the proud owner of Dustin Penner in the AHL I am torn on what I like to see happen. Staying with Anaheim will allow him to blossom with the young guys, however going to the Oilers might allow more ice time and a bigger role in their offence.

Kevin Lowe is probably pissing a lot of people off , including Brian Burke.

Over under on how many times Brian Burke used an expletive in front of Lowe's name today is 12.

Even if Penner stays in Anaheim I'm worried the pressure of the big money contract will mess with his head.

I really think the Ducks should walk. Save that money to spend it better on Getzlaf and Perry.

Reports already coming out that Brian Burke and the Ducks will match the offer and retain Dustin Penner. I have not heard this directly so no confirmation yet. More to come later so please check back.

Good news for a Penner / Torres owner.

I think Lowe got his man. I dont think Burke can match with there cap situation. Sure If Neidermayers salary goes off the books They will be at 45 but they have to think about next off season. And if 42 is really there number there is no chance they can match. I think he messed up big time when he signed Bertuzzi. He hasnt had a season worthy of 4 mill since 02/03. Now he is stuck with a 33 year old power forward who doesnt hit anymore and has a bad back. Burke has been loyal to Bertuzzi to a fault and it already burnt him once. Coming into this off season the Anaheim situation looked so ideal, now its kind of a mess and the West is open again.

Because you either replace Penner with Bertuzzi and everything else stays status quo or Niedermayer retires and you keep the same roster that won the cup with Bertuzzi and Schnieder? I don't know I don't think this decision makes or breaks the Ducks at all. Getzlaf/Perry next year does though.

I agree, I don't think Penner's the guy you want to blow the wad on with Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf hitting RFA next year. If Penner stays, one or both of them is out the door, and IMO they're both stronger players than Penner is.
