i c/c the turn, it's hard to believe someone can't have an A-2-4 in their hand, esp UTG since a lot of people say never to raise from up front in O8i b/c the river

decent question... The hands that get played in this early are so atrocious, I figure I've got a better hand than most and if it hits I want to get paid as big as possible.

raising preflop is fine for the reason you mentioned. i b/c the flop, and as played, i bet all the way down. 24 low is going to raise you somewhere--you might run into 25, but that's less likely than you getting value, imho.

I don't like the PFR OOP with this hand - you are not going to get anyone to fold so why build the pot with a hand that only has a few flops that can hit it hard enough to continue.OK, so this is a pretty good flop for you, and having raised you should be betting on all streets till you get resistance - and on the river I am going to keep raising.....if anyone has stayed in with a higher str8, so be it.If I had called pre-flop, I would look to check raise the flop to try to get rid of the 2nd best lows.

I tend to agree with the "check it preflop" consensus. I don't like the idea of bloating the pot out of position with a hand that could play really terribly out of position. There aren't a ton of flops you can really drive the action on. It'd be better if you had a suited ace, but you don't even have that. Your hand is probably a favorite against the field, but it's tough to justify putting more money in when you have no idea HOW it is a favorite.I'm betting the turn, and I'm more inclined to do so because we have two 4's in our hand. If 25 is calling us down and we get it h/u, we'll take half the pot a good chunk of the time, enough to justify continuing aggressively with a hand that has outs to improve or chop.I bet the river, and if somebody raises and somebody calls 2-cold, I'll probably slow down. I don't put 3 bets in against a 2-5 that makes a good call or 259 or something like that.Wang

Ok, thanks to all for responses. My thinking on raising PF is that I've got a hand with some scoop potential, and that if it doesn't scoop (but I end up going to showdown), I want as many bets from six players in there as possible if I'm only getting 1/2 the pot. Of course I'm assuming that I'm getting part of the pot if I show down...Results: the turn was checked around. I checked because I doubted there was a 2-4 (because i had two 4s as Wang mentions) although it was def possible, but I worried about a 2-5, and as mentioned, I am OOP. I bet the river, and called a raise with a bit of a sick feeling. Someone turned over 2-5-9-Q for 3/4 of the pot along with a 5-9-x-x.

This is how I'd play it too.
