Other than Burnsy making a return, Sutter is the perfect man for the job. Great hire by Lou.

Julien didn't deserve to take the fall in NJ. Lou has been reading his press clippings too much & deserved to get knocked out of the playoffs early.

Sutter is a GREAT hire though

For the life of me, I cant figure out why Sutter would take this job: it's like being the drummer for Spnial Tap- you know you're going to go, the question is when? I set the over/under on his life expectancy as the head coach at two years.
ALSO.... Lou pissed off one of the best asst coaches and coaching prospects in the league: John Maclean.... he SHOULD have been given a shot at the head coaching job. Now he may not even come back as as asst. because he's pissed....

You hit the nail on the head here, but i believe Sutter will last and have a good career. If Lou pulls a Julien on him no self respecting coach would ever take that job again.

That's an awesome analogy...except Spinal Tap was a $hitty band.

Talked to Sutter today on the radio.... it sounds a lot like he's been offered this job before by Lou, and finally caved in and said yes....

He was offered the job before Julien was hired. Speculation was he wanted to coach his son for his final year.

I don't think Lou will be quick on the trigger with Sutter, seems more like the Lemaire/Burns hirings, and less like the "best readily available" guys Lou has hired in the past.

There's also the outside chance that Sutter is being groomed as the successor to the GM job, which could leave Lou as President, and see Johnny Mac step up as coach.

I would agree he was most likely promised Lou's job when he retires since there would have been more attractive places to coach than NJ. He must have some ambition for a GM otherwise why wouldn't he have taken the Calgary job.
