There are two other "others": Eric (also a poker player and Michael's twin) and Daniel (a magician)

I love the game of poker for the competition, the psychology, the never-ending quest to improve, the advanced and sometimes minute complexities not everyone sees when they play, and the enjoyment of succeeding after giving all your energy to reach a goal that may at first seem unattainable but that you find a way to make it possible.

What do previous event results mean in regards to this tourney? How is there no(t) doubt he will make the FT just because of previous results?

Oh you know the answer to that, but what the hell: Losing is demoralizing, but winning boosts your confidence. With the results so far in the series, it looks like he's in the zone.
As for that translating into "no doubt", well that's hyperbole, but it's still better to make grand proclamations, rather than injecting "might, perhaps, maybe" into every sentence. No need to play the semantics game all the time.
