Calling Down With Top Pair

Recommended Posts

opponent is incredibly passive but given the flop and his passivity i figured he had to have a draw here. the river made me as nervous as it did happy but since i called the turn for the reason i did i had to call it also. small bets from this player seemed to mean weak and scared to me. Ew. I never like calling down in Omaha with TPTK. TPTK in Omaha = Jack high in Hold Em. See Ellix Powers for his opinion of calling with J high. I'd fold this. You're only ahead of a busted non-nut heart draw with no king. J 10, K Q, K 9, A 2, etc all beat you here.

....which he probably hit on the turn, given your read of him: very passive players do not normally play just their position.

first of all i think you raise pre-flop, you have a nice hand playing shortanyways, calling with top pair looks like suicide, he could easily have had J-10-x-x or Ah-xh-2-x

wow that the 9 made a straight didnt occur to me at all while i was playing, i had such a good session i must have gotten a little cocky and arrogant.i guess i got lucky here. it just felt really good to make a call like this and be right, i usually don't even try to do things like this. thanks for the reality check.

i was raising enough preflop where i wanted to slow down a little. but normally i do think this should be raised from there.
