Ajs In 18k Guaranteed Facing Possible Resteal?

Recommended Posts

I had been playing tight, so there is no reason to think he is playing back at my aggression. Is AJ too good to fold here though getting the price Im getting?PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t800 (9 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FCP)MP2 (t8276)MP3 (t6130)CO (t8340)Hero (t12490)SB (t15675)BB (t20814)UTG (t12965)UTG+1 (t62150)MP1 (t18744)Preflop: Hero is Button with A :club: , J :D . 6 folds, Hero raises to t2250, SB raises to t15675, 1 fold, Hero folds.Final Pot: t18275

I had a similar hand tonight with similar M's in the Nightly One Hundred Grand. I had 1,800 on the button, BB had 1,500 and blinds were 50/100. I raised to 300 with AJo and BB raised to 800 (pot committed). I shoved and he called with 3s7s and of course sucked out.I assume there's an ante so your M is below 10. I call as there's a pretty good chance he's on a resteal especially since you're raising from the button. AJ is on the margin for me so it's close, I'd fold A10 here.

I swear people are restealing so much more often than they should be in tournies now, plus because you didn't make it exactly 3BBs you're OBV stealing (sw). I'd probably call here to be honest, I think villain's range is much wider than we're giving him credit for like...44+, A8+, K9+, QJ+ IMO. I'd say you're ahead of his range and call

This is very close, but I think it's a call. He's not gonna give you credit for AJ, open raising from the button. With an M under 10 I would also very strongly consider just open pushing from the get-go. I think you can get in a lot of trouble with a standard raise here against the big stacks...say you make your raise, SB folds BB calls. Flop comes K43, he checks - now you check behind? Or put out a standard C-bet and give him the opportunity to raise all-in? Meh, I don't love playing a flop with AJ in a raised pot and an M of like 9.

I folded with no read on the SB and still plenty of play in my stack. If I had been playing aggressive, it obviously would have been an easy call. However, since I had been card dead, I felt that the villain viewed me as tight and needed a real hand to play back with. The villain proceeded to resteal about 4 times in the next 6 orbits so I definitely regretted folding.I like the idea of just open shoving in retrospect.I also agree that restealing seems to be happening a lot more in tournies.

As of late, there's been a huge surge in re-stealing from the blinds when the button raises in an unopened pot. I call this move. The range he's re-stealing with is large enough that it's worth calling.
