first b&m exp, in curacao

Recommended Posts

I am 17 and have played poker with friends and online for about 8 months. Obviously, since i live in the US, I have never played in a real cardroom.Last Thursday my entire family went down to Curacao for my 2nd cousin's wedding.( we are Jewish and there is a beautiful synagogue in Curacao, the oldest in the Western Hemisphere) On the way to the hotel (Kura Hulanda, strongly recomended if you ever visit Curacao) I saw a casino with a sign "Texas Hold Em Poker" on one side, and "Full Fledge SportsBook" on the other side. i thought i died and went to heaven, until i remebered that the gamlinh age was still 18, even in Curacao. But on Friday night some cousins I never met came down from Delray, FLa. I started talking to one of them, he was 26, and enjoys blackjack and said he wanted to go that sportsbook. onn satuday I went to a small casino with him right near the hotel. It had 3 tables, 2 for BJ and 1 for Rouletee. They were empty. We sat down at Bj table and i was kinda pissed with min bet at 5 bucks. I bought in for 20 and lost it in four hands  . however, i was happy that no one asked for ID. I asked if he wanted to split a cab to the sports book and we went there. It was only like 2 pm so there was no hold em yet. he played Bj and i played 5 cent Video Poker. I lost 3 bucks then bet 2 races at Churchill and lost 18 bucks before we left.He left the Sunday morning, but i went to the casino with another cousin whos like 55, after the piston's game. we walked this time, and i saw the hold em part was full. I tried to find someone who spoke english, and he directed me to a lady. she said tournament, 55 US. That was almost all of the money i had brought, but said wtf why not. there were re buys for first 2 blinds levels. start with 300 in chips and 5-10 blinds.it was so fkin awesome. I was real nervous at first. but the guy next to me was real cool. 21 from Ohi0 and in the Marines, been on and off Curacao since March. he was on of maybe 5americans of the 30 or so players. He helped me with chip values and things of that nature.first hand i saw a flop, i limped in LP after a few limpers with 3 :club: 5 :D . flop 2 5 6. some guy bet 30 and i called with 2 other ppl. turn was 3 and he moved in i called, he had a5 and i won.the players at the table were just like what i read about. a real fat American who was extremely tight was sitting two to my left. On my left was an awful player who lost both his buyins in like 20 mins. 3 to my left was a local black guy who played extremely passively, but was good player. Then some more locals, who spoke spanish. Then 2 dutch guys who were stuck up pricks, then the 21 year old navy guy.Couple hands after I won that big pot i had 1010 and raised 100 after 2 limpers. they both called, flop came 89Q. they both checked i went all in. (1 guy had 200 other had 300) both called  First guy was a local who slow played AA and other guy was my navy friend who had 77(dont ask, he was on his 2nd buy in also) I rivered J for straight to take it down :D Few hands later when blinds raise navy's friend goes all in for 120 and its 100 to me in the BB with AJS i call and A high holds up vs 10Q.Then my key pot of the tourney. LAG limps utg, local player raise MIn, (blinds 25-50) and i call with J7 suited,LAG re raises min and we both call. flop came 7 high, and i checked hoping UTG would raise so i could just fold. but he chedk then original raiser moved in for 400. He didnt look strong so i called and UTG Folded. He flipped over A8 suited. I hit trip 7s on turn giving him 4 flush but he said nh and started walking away. he didnt realize he hit flush on river, and the dealer didnt realize either but his friend saw and they gave him the pot. instead of about 3k i have 1.1k in chips now.THey combined tables shortly after and guy limped on the button on my BB wit 50/100 blinds and i raised 250 more with 69 trying to steal it. flop came 5710 and i bet 200 hoping he just fold. he called and we went check check through the hand, he called with Q6 and got running Qs for trips and i was now shortstacked.Folded to SB who called i went all in with J4 he called with AQ i outdrew him. Then i misplayed a hand badly. in SB with 34 suited and 1 limper i completed. flop came 2310 i bet out and both called me, including extremely fat and tight player to my left. I got help with 3 on turn giving me trips and i (stupidly) checked and it was checked around. river was 10 and i was pissed. checked, and fat guy bet 500 which i stupidly called and of course he had 10s full.i doubled up again when i checked SB and flopped flush draw and had to go all in. Then double dup again with KQ vs A10. Then came my pivotal hand where i lost 90% of my chips. I raised 2 off the button to 400(blinds 75/150) and passive guy flat called me. flop came like 239 and i checked and he checked. Turn was a 6. I figured he didnt have anything, and with 950 out there and 1000 left in my stack i decided to move all in. h ecalled with 1010 and i had only 100 left.I didnt play very good poker, or i could have easily cashed in this. But it was a great experience. Players were bad and stereotypical(tight guy was from Chicago, bad players were the young americans, locals were very passive for the most part, etc.) I just played bad poker most of the hands i played, and would have loved another chance. But if anyone is in Curacao i suggest going to Holiday Beach Casino.Kudos to anyone who is still reading this, i had just really wanted to write everything down. Sry for length
