Anyone Ever Feel Bad

Recommended Posts

When you felt a guy who looks like they can't affored to lose. Yes some of you may say what the hell are they doing at the table with the rent money, or does he feel bad if I lose? I understand this point of view but last week a busted a guy who looked down and out, he left right away with this look of what the hell am I going to do now.Alot of these players are feeding an addiction not some up and coming star with a huge bankroll.Anyone else ever run into this.

Ya I do feel bad. There are times where I see guys playing in a cash game and I know that they are in the midst of gambling away everything they have. I feel bad for the person, I feel bad for his family and I see that they need some help. That being said I have talked to someone in that situation a few times and tried to tell them to get help, and that they should quit the game etc. Past that I do not hold back and I gun for those chips just as anyone else does. I have tried to be the good guy and not just encourage them to continue there binge but if they keep playing I will take their money if I get the chance, someone surely will if I dont so you might as well get it.

I can't say I've ever played against anybody with whom you described. That being said I play poker because I enjoy it, not to make a living or feed an addiction therefore I don't feel bad if I bust somebody who looks a little ragged.

If I were a BJ or Craps dealer then I would constantly feel bad for the losers.
Yeah, because the casinos force people in the door and then make them play. You learn very quickly as a dealer not to "take your work home with you". You CANNOT feel bad for people that choose to risk their money on table games.

Truth. Like anything else, you get acclimated to your work. I suppose this is one area of the gaming industry I personally would avoid since I wouldn't want to be the face of the casino that's busting players who shouldn't be gamboooling in the first place. I have no objection to anyone who chooses to do this for a living.

i used to think about it a bit. now i focus on how they play, not if they look poor or whether they're married or whatever. i'm there to size them up only as much as it takes to beat them, and as many have pointed out, if i don't, someone else will anyway.in 2004, i knew this lawyer who was going to be disbarred because he'd stolen from his clients in order to fuel his poker habit. he wasn't a bad player, but was obviously addicted and was loser over time. then within the last 6 months i saw him playing at the bike at a $40NL table. losing, no less. he was disbarred, had lost his home and family, and was still playing, though obviously lower. some people just can't help it and need help.

have you ever been at the bar and seen that guy sitting there knocking back drink after drink? you just know he is blowing his last dollar on booze.
I know exactly what you mean, the other day I was in a bar and this guy sat next to me for 10 hours and just drank and drank and you know todays he's somewhere wasting his time, talking about nothing important. It's sad really

There is a a guy at the Hustler who three weeks ago claimed he was going to kill himself if he lost his bankroll. This was at the weekly $150 tournament. Someone asked him how big his bankroll was and he replied, "about $1000." Well, last week he was at the tournament again and a lot of people were talking about it and when he busted, I could see that perhaps he really was serious about his dilemma. Oh well.. Not much any of us can do - Yes, I feel sorry.. No, I'm not going to stop playing them or play any differently against them. If I don't take their money, someone else will. Its not up to you to stop them, its up to their friends and family. I'll let you know if this guy shows up tonight.

It's perfectly normal to feel sorry for people like that. It makes you human. That's why people give money to charities, and help people in need.It would be far more worrying if you didn't feel sorry for them.
