I know you all saw Rounders, great movie. And it really gave a boost to the poker industry when it was down and rooms were closing like the one at the word famous Riviera casino which was a big time place at the time. Now poker is down again and I think it would be helped if a good film witha vegas/poker./gaming themes could be a success. How do you get one made?

Another poker movie is Maverick where James Garner playes poker and saves theday. A lot of fun but the movie sometimes makes poker playes look like cheaters. Also, they play the draw poker which was popular at the time and featured inmany movies. One of the reasons Rounders was so important for the poker world was the introduction of the hold em form of poker. Whichh many had not seen before. I had been thinking that another hold em movie was needed, but now I am of a mind where a new game is needed. May be we need a movie featuring Omaha 8 or better (a form of poker where you get four cards and try to make a low hand too). Characters could explain to the audience the rules of the game during scenes since they may not know it. i think this kind of movie could make a poker boost. Is anybody writing a movie like this?

Hey Slim Jim, this is the author of "Vegas Knights". It is a screenplay I wrote that did well at 2 film festival screenwriting competitions. What a coincidence (or maybe not). I used similar wording: Vegas/poker/gaming or was it Vegas/gaming/poker when describing my screenplay in a thread over at 2 + 2. That thread was closed recently when I wouldn't post 8 pages of the script in the OOT section.

added: if anyone is not familiar with what script I'm talking about it's this one:

Update: I did offer to 2 + 2 to post several pages of the multiple honored script in their News Views and Gossip section but was declined for some reason. You've got to wonder why though with poker in a serious state of decline since Black Friday.

Hi there mr "vegas kninghts", that is all well and good. I am sure many of us have screenplays tht have won some awards which we would like to see made into bigtime films. This thread is for talking about poker movies that have actually been made or we would like to see. I made it. It is not for trying to sell your screenplay whch is against the terms and conditins of this web site. Maybe that is why you got your thread locked on all those other sites i dont know. If you think someone is pretending you pm the moderators instead of selling (by theway thats what i will do too).

Anyway do you have anything to say about poker movies? Then stay and chat. You are right there are not as many troll posts here like you see on some other sites. Another poker movie is Cincinnatti kid where Steve Mcqueen is the kid and tries to beat the poker master. He loses at the end. They play five card stud another game that was popular at the time. Imagine a new sequel to the Cincinnatti Kid whee they play Omaha 8 or better?

There must be I guess because in that other thread someone...
Whoops, that should be "That must be" not "There must be". Also, I see a "then" for "than" in there. I've got to drink some coffee before I start posting when I'm tired.

****Note to moderators - I am not selling anything******

I have a good idea for a movie where a simple guy who likes poker and poker movies and talking about poker movies on the internet starts a thread on the internet to talk about poker movies. Then he mentions that he wrote a poker movie screenplay that won an award. Then somebody else comes in and says that he also wrote a poker movie screenplay that won many awards and is better then mine. then that person takes over the thread to talk about his screenplay, and try to sell it, and becomes hostile and threatning and angry and tries to scare the simple guy. And gets both of them erased from the forum. And chases him all through the internet. Now simple guy can't get anybody to buy his screenplay, agents don't return calls, and cant even talk about movies on the internet because the crazy guy chases him everywhere. In college they call this 'metafaiction' where the writing becomes about the writing and the screenplay itself like that movie adaptation. It is an advanced form of writing. But not a fun way to live.

Omaha 8 or better is much more complicated then 5 card stud. In my opinion this might confuse mainstream America even more. I think if a movie where poker is important is to be successful, the poker has to be secondary to the characterization, the plot, the visuals, and the style of the film. But that doesn't mean the poker can't be interesting and an important part of the movie

it is fine to have a movie where there is just some poker inside. But I do not consider that a poker movie. ANd it will not do anything to help the poker industry if poker is a small part. A poker movie should have poker at the centyer so it can cause a poker boost. You are right that Omaha 8 is complicated but it is an exciting game. That is why the movie will have characters explaining the games as they go along. This is called exposition. It's like: "Bob is drawing to the nut low, the lowest possible hand, with his ace and two. That would get him at least half the pot. If he is not quartered. And he could win the other half if his two pair prove best. Oh a rasie!" This way we can include people who are not familiar with the game and get them excited.

Thanks JubilantLanktLad, I'm excited too! I think it is really important to have some poker at the heart of the movie. ANd to talk about the game in a serious way. I do not think that is a good idea to just have a couple peolple playing poker in your movie about church and romance and ladies who lunch. But that is just an opinion. i am not going to namecall or harrass someone just because they disagree with me. There is room for all kinds of movies.

I think they need a movie where the hero gets stuck and needs to win really really bad, and it comes down to the last hand where the villian has a full house and the last card gives our hero a straight flush.

Also make sure that the hero, an expert in poker, before he raises the villain he says: "I call your bet.....long pause....and I'm just going to raise you all in" shoving all his chips into the middle regardless of who has more chips at the time.

It would help if a love interest doesn't understand the compulsion that drives hero to gamble....but don't dwell too deeply on the long and obvious history of a compulsive gambler's terrible life.

Lastly there should be a buddy who over doses after a big win...but don't connect the hero's win to this outcome.

SlimJim, you stated that, "I am sure many of us have screenplays tht have won some awards which we would like to see made into bigtime films." I'm curious about what awards you have won.

Now those are some ideas for a poker movie! I like it. One problem with a lot of poker movies is that they don't have the concept of "table stakes". i would like a movie where the characters have a good talk about "table stakes" at tjhe time of the big showdown,. ANd a lot of sex.

Thank you for your interest Cruz. I do not want to get into any details why, but I am not willing to share any personal details on this website. As certain parties are determined to do what they can to make my life a hell hole. And will do anything they can to hurt me online. I think it is great that there is a nice poker community here, with no troll posts, and I hope to stay.

Please JubilantLankyLad do not give up the excitement. I liked your ideas and would enjoy talking about more. People can make fun of my spellling and grammer, they can tell lies about me and harrass my facebook family and friends and they can threaten to sue me for my work. But they can't keep me from talking about poker movies. and other stuff online. I am no longer trying to make a poker movie but I still like to talk about what i love.

Does poker player Daniel negranu still post on these forums. I always thought he was good on the Tv poker shows. I bet he would like to be in a poker movie. How about a sequel to cincinnatti Kid called Cincinnatti Kid Poker? Only it would take place in Vegas.

Ha ha, so glad you guys are excited! I know there are not too many people posting here now, but it is good to be on a no troll forum! Be careful Resident Evil talking about nipples though. You may get a Pm from a new member saying " there are nipples in the T an A scene in my award winning poker/vegas/gaming screenplay. WHich is under the copyright. Please desist from talking about nipples or you will be held liable and never work again. Plus I lived in Las Vegas for nine years blah blah blah"

I am sorry for my bad grammer you guys. I can write better but it is hard when you are all upset like this. I cannot afford a lawyer or may be things would be better for me. I do not understand the law or how these things could work. Say you have a screenplay with a scene at the Fremont street expeience in downlown Las vegas. How can somebody tell you not to have a scene there becasue they have a scene at the fremont street and it is award winning and under the copyright so you cannot. Does that make sense to you? ANybody should be able to make a poker movie with a scene in the fremont experience. you do not own the place. There is a scene there in the Vegas Vacation movie with Chevy chase. not really a poker movie but still good and about vegas. Also i have been to vegas since 1991. In 1991 they did not even have the fremont experience lights. It was just a street!
