My First Serious Target

Recommended Posts

Hi there folks,I thought I was start again, from the ground up. I used to play on Pokerstars, under a different alias but thought I would start again. On Pokerstars, I had some good spells and some bad, but generally very inconsistent results! I either would OWN or be OWNED. My bankroll management was terrible and always got involved in stakes I could not afford to handle variance in.I have registered a new account under a new poker room (FULL TILT POKER) and want to start again from the ground up.The Goal:$5000 ProfitI plan to deposit:$477This is to cover - 20 x Buy Ins for $1 + $0.10 90 Man Double Stack20 x Buy Ins for $2 + $0.25 180 Man Single Stack20 x Buy Ins for $5 + $0.50 90 Man Double Stack30 x 100BB Buy Ins for $0.05/$0.10 6 Max + 9 Man Cash GamesThis is the first attempt at any serious poker goal. I do not want to be involved in games which I cannot afford to hit a losing streak in hense the set goals above. Do you think this plan is sufficient for my cause or does anyone suggest any other games to play?I will post all my progress on here including key hand historys and I would appreciate everyones views/thoughts to pick holes in my game and help me achieve my goal.I do expect if I somehow manage to achieve this it will take some time due to the inexperience in a goal like this. I would love to have any interested rail me!Wish Me luck, I look forward to chatting to all of you over the coming months.SnixT

Thanks for that man, do you recommend any other games and do you reckon thats decent enough bankroll management? You ever done anything like this before?

Good Luck man. Just make sure to stick with that Discipline when you roll through your first bad spell and don't move up.

Thats going to be the biggest challenge for me, i think i will get bored easily playing these stakes but its more about self discipline over a long period of time. All the small wins will add up into a big win instead of mixed results at higher stakes give a big lose

My advice would be to ditch the goal. You have less than $500 and your goal is simply : $5000.I think that's a fine goal for someone who's been there and done that in terms of grinding up a bankroll. But if you've struggled with bankroll management and consistancy, you're going to feel like a failure a lot of the time with that goal over your head. You goals should be more like:Play x amount of sngs per month.Play well.Quit playing when bored/on tilt.Spend x hours per month studying bustouts/ tricky hands/ read poker strategy articles/ posting hands.Being successful in reaching these goals each month will increase your confidence and improve your game. Whether you ran good or bad, doesn't really matter. If you play well, you will make money. It's that simply. But if you focus on a dollar amount goal, you might not be focusing on all the other aspects of your game that will help you make money and eventually, reach your money goal.

I do plan on doing most of these things, I think actually studying bustout hands ect and key hands in the tournament is something my game lacks, and if I want to improve, not just achieve my goal will be super important. I do agree with you on the goal thing, but if I dont have a goal in place ie financial figure I think i will lose motivation easier. I want to improve. I want to make money. I want to learn! How do you make your computer save your hand histories automatically?

You may want to mix in some 9 person sit n gos. I have had stretches where I have cashed in more than 20% of my multis, but I have also had some very dry spells (especially as of late). I enjoy multis a lot more than sit n gos, but I don't have to avoid as much bad luck in a sit n go as I do in multis. I had a run up of approximately $900 playing primarily $3 and $6 90 person turbos. Unfortunately, over the past couple of months I had a run of terrible luck (mixed in w/some questionable play I am sure) and basically lost the majority of what I had made. My plan now is to play sit n gos to try and cover the cost of my multi table buy ins. I would suggest using at least some percentage of your bankroll on sit n gos. A friend of mine is an excellent player and makes decent money online and that is his approach to online play. It might be worth considering.

I was thinking that, If for each MTT I play, I play the equivilant buy in 9 man Sit and Go at the same time, If I cash the SnG (which I am fairly confident I can do more often than not at these levels) I get my buy in back for the MTT, and if I cash in the MTT It will be sheer profit.... Possibily incorporate a cash game into this scenario aswell after a while or practise...??

I clearly was not posting to highlight a skill factor, I was putting pressure on the short stacks as i had built a big stack, 2 went insane and one called with QQFlopping quads is pretty sick...Oh and i didnt appreciate the sarcasm...
