Has Negreanu forgotten what has got him here

Recommended Posts

Let me preface this by saying that I am a huge fan. Negreanu is far and away my favorite player and one that I tend to idolize in my poker play and attitude. However, has he truly forgotten what has made him? Maybe every poker star goes through it, and without having access to their daily thoughts as we do with Daniel, maybe we just don't see it. But to me it seems as though Daniel has truly lost that love for the game. They say throughout a marriage that Husbands and Wives fall in and out of love. Maybe Daniel has fallen out of love with poker at the moment and needs a break. I have only been playing for a year and a half and I know that atleast on 2 occasions I was fed up and bored with the game. My solution was to take 2 weeks off and come back refreshed and ready to play. Now I a pro, who is playing for a living, is unable to afford this luxury, but how well of a living can you make pissing your money away? So that is my question, does Daniel have so much on his plate now, that poker, the once first class option, now rides coach? I love Daniel's poker articles, his creativity in hands, his ability to out think and out play the guy next to him, but now it seems is that his blog is continously filled with excuses for poor play. Daniel, I beg of you to remember what has gotten you to the level your currently fixated, and to step up your game. Sure the POY is not the same prestige as the WSOP, but you worked his hard to get here, so don't just give it to JJ. JJ is a great player and posting some remarkable results, and maybe that in itself is intimidating, you may feel like no matter what this machine can't be beat. Well, go Rocky IV on his A** and knock him off of his high horse! That is all I have to say. Good luckL* :D

For the Love of God...Give Daniel a break for God's Sake. Do YOU love to go to your JOB everyday... are you pumped up with your A-game... EVERY time you sit at a table. Daniel has been doing this FAR FAR FAR longer than you have .... he deserves some time to NOT be "all about the game" !This man has his arms spread very thin... and as you know Poker is almost just as much as a Mental game than skill and luck put together.I believe in my heart of hearts that Daniel has not FORGOTTEN how he has come to be as successful as he is today. Get off of his ASS.... worry about yourself and leave Daniel alone..... mmmmm let's see ....... he must be doing something right to still be ahead in the Player of the Year award... for mmmmmm let's see... two years now.... Do you see any other Pro Player being as open and honest about his life and his feelings.... I don't think so..... Daniel NeGreanu is by far.. MORE REAL than any player that I know.... He tells it like it is..... If he is in a FUNK..... then let him get out of it on his own time.... Get real.... you and a lot of others have been in a funk... and when I am in a funk.... leave me the hell alone... why should Daniel be any different. Daniel.... honey... do what you have to do........ I am behind you a 150%.Thanks ! :D

i dont htink he has forgotten, maybe he just dont wanna spend his money alot for first class, you are not always going to win money, just cause you are a pro polayer does not mean you will always have your money it can go in a flash, maybe on some flights 1st class is filled and he has no choice but coach seats, he travles alot look at his blog he seems to bee all over the country, flies from one place then that same day he may be at another place, poker is a reall extra big right now were everybody wants these pro players to come to there event for a showing etc... so why spend lots of extra money on first class when ya can save some bye flying coach.. just cause someone has lots of money dontmean they have to fly first class..yes maybe he needs a break maybe he dont. but how can someone say has he lost it just cause he may fly coach, his money he can do what he wants.. the amount of money someoen makes and how they spend it dont mean they are losing anything, might be his choice.. flying first class cost alot and as much as he travles that would be alot of $$$$ every week.. alot of famous folks fly coach... thats why most famous people get there own planes if they can afford it..so on that note i think he has not lost it. thanks MonsterP.S: Dan You aint lost it, and good luck with player of the year and other tourneys you may win...

I am just making an observation, and I think I stated somewhere, that I am sure all stars go through it. Sure a funk is one thing, but right now Daniel seems to be disinterested with the game and I was just stating that observation. You do not need to berrate me for stating the obvious. This is a forum and if I offend you, then kindly state so, but do not go off on some tyrant because I upset you. L* :D

People, I think you are missing the point. When I say "lost" his love, I meant to eventaully gain it back. I am not critizing Daniel, or intending to be rude. I am simply stating what I believe is fairly obvious: Daniel has seemingly put poker on the back burner and thus it is effecting his play. Granted I have only came to this conclusion, because Daniel is putting himself out there and allowing us to read his daily thoughts, and that is also the reason I posted the question. Do you think that all players go through this, and if so, what are some ways you think that they (pro's and amateur's alike) get over it? Just some questions, is all, no bashing.L* :D

You are being critical when you say that Daniel has forgotten what matters and has too much on his plate.... mmmmm let's see... what else.... oh yeah.... using his blogs to make excuses for poor play... and ..mmmmm the big one.. when you state to Daniel directly.. "Step up to the Plate"...Come on... don't sugar coat what you intended to say in the first place and down play the critisism that you bluntly put out there... I never said anything to berate you... I am just telling you like it is baby. When you have TEN PLUS years under your belt... then you may have some validity in your opinions about some one elses career....

i am not missing the point, its in your typing, dont back down from what ya said, you said it it was wrong and rude and disrespectfull to say, good way to try and make friends and be welcome here at his forum when bashing him. what you said made the point very clear and i dont like your point , its way off...you should just appoligize to dan for saying what you have said instead of trying to back out cause you was hoping everyone would agree with you and nobody is... dont change what ya said now.....dont expect a welcome to the forums from em either wont get one...

First off, who the hell r u to determine who can say what and when? This is a forum. I spoke how I feel about a particular subject. I will speak my mind freely when I come into here, and Daniel is a big boy, I am sure he can handle a little constructive criticism now and then. JJ used to give it to him all the time and now JJ and Dan are really good friends. I am only stating what I feel is painfully obvious, Daniel has not been up to his par in tournament play! Make friends? My friends and family that surround me on a daily basis (outside of the internet) are the only friends I need. If my objective was to come online to "make friends" I surely would have selected a personals website over a Poker Forum. Oh and as previously stated, I am a HUGE fan of Negreanu. I will stop short before I say rudely immature comments.L* :D

OK..... You are free to speak your mind .... however... Daniel has been the first to say that he is not "in" his game right now..... and this is HIS own opinion of HIMSELF.... For you to ask the question "Has Daniel forgoten was has got him here" is uncalled for .. especially for someone who has only played a year and a half. Like I said before when you have TEN PLUS years under your belt... then you have something to say....

Why does it matter how long I have played poker? Does this affect my ability to judge whether a person has lost it or not? I think as of now, Daniel has so many other things on his plate (directly stemming from his poker) that he has taken poker for granted. It would be easy to do given how much he has going right now, but sometimes we all need to take a step back to remember what got us here. I really wish Daniel would respond so that we can hear his thoughts on this subject. I promise you, I highly doubt that he will be offended. L* :D

We all have times that we burn out on our jobs, no matter how much we love them. As a part time player and full time dealer, I find that every so often I too have to take a step back. Since I work in a small casino, I have the opportunity to deal other games (like blackjack... oh and I am also a dice dealer) so I can really take a breather.
