there's a reason a started a new thread today.just read the HK papers (that's how exciting the news is)...Canucks have offered Mats Sundin a 2-year $20M contract.Mats ain't gonna get a better deal financially and the Nucks would benefit HUGE by the addition. Please let this happen...PLEASE!! :club:

This team needs 4 top 6 forwards to be even watchable. I will still watch every game, but man it will be tough.GO CANUCKS!
watchable or win?with the Nucks defense and goaltending they just need a bit more offense. assuming the twins are on a separate line...someone like Sundin could insta-change a line. the difference between winning and losing in Vancouver is small...Lui needs support but not lots of help. no complaints on 4 snipers but I don't think that's a realistic off season.

I think you are out of touch. They had brutal forwards last year, and they stand to loose two more. Raymond is ok, the Sedins are what they are. Kesler might be able to add more goals, but that is it. Targetting Sundin instead of trying to get a collection of other free agent forwards was a huge mistake. Even with Sundin, the Canucks forwards look worse than the Leafs (well, on par) forwards last year. Sundin lead the Leafs to nothing, what sign is there that he could do different for a team he had no interest in until they way over paid. If Sundin doesn't come, then the Canucks wasted all of their time on him while everyone else got signed. This was supposed to be the offseason where the Canucks problems got fixed. We had great goaltending and D, we just needed some forwards. So far, we have improved our 4th line, and that is it.When Gillis became GM, he made some bold promises. It appears that while trying to fulfill these promises he has made many rookie mistakes. I have no problem hiring new blood, but he had NO experience as an assistant gm or anything. IMO, it is starting to show. I believe Nonnis should never have been fired, and I believe this summer, with the free cap space, would have been the culmination of him putting together a good team.On top of everything else, Gillis seems to be blackballed out of trades. I am almost certain Nonnis could have found a way to get Camalleri or Jokinen. I am ranting here, but Gillis is dropping the ball.

I'm hoping they do something whether its a firesale or actually go get some players. It will never happen but i'd like to see Jagr at 7 or 8 million only cause it will take a lot to get him to go somewhere, Bertuzzi at 3 million and Demitra at 4 or 5. Demitra is the only one I'd like to see for more then 1 year or go throw an offer sheet at Bouchard.

I don't know if players just won't sign in Vancouver or Gillis is too busy waiting around for Sundin but the lack of anything is disturbing. There are still several forwards out there to fill in a 2nd line. I'm not crazy enough to think they can put together a team that can win the cup but there are still pieces out there available to make this a playoff team. Over spend a little if we have to.

It's probably a matter of him not really having a first choice (other than Sundin of course) and believing that the longer he waits the lower the price will go.Anson Carter may be available. :club:

The Canucks are fukking idiots. They should never have let Carter go in the first place. Sedins have never looked as good again. And the Canucks organization is as retarded as the Raptors. Why have 8-9 quality defensemen when your forwards can't score? Only difference is the Raptors GM figured it out sooner and moved the extra PG quickly. Vancouver has a top-5 goalie, they could trade 4 defensemen for 2-3 decent forwards. If even 1 of those 3 are a 30-goal scorer they're ahead.STEVE HOLT!

They already have Poms and Stafford at RW?
But why target Bernier in the Campbell deal in the first place? It seems like they want to cut salary at any costs. They made it look like they got a real player for Campbell, only to trade him away for even more future assets. Just an odd strategy, unless they always want to stay at the bottom of the cap.Either way I am happy Bernier is on the Canucks.

"9:30PM UPDATE: According to a source, the Vancouver Canucks and UFA forward Pavol Demitra are closing in on a multi-year deal. One source indicated the two sides may have verbally agreed to a deal but we are still awaiting further confirmation. Any deal won't be announced until tomorrow"nhl line

that still doesnt change my opinion that Vancouver will be in the bottom 5 in the league next year. Gillis is so desperate he will probally give Denmitra a 10 year 80 million dollar deal at this point.

Apparantly Demitra will be 12 million for 3 years. A little overpaid but this gives us a good shot at Gaborik next year. I'd still like to see one more half decent forward. Sundin for 1 year? Maybe Shanny still has some gas left in the tank or maybe a trade.
