I wouldn't have bet the pot... 2 clubs... 5 6 Q... Some idiot has a Q or someone has a legimate High Club Draw, with 2 for the low... So I think bettin pot from 1st position is a mistake. If you on the button and its checked to you, then I'd make the play, but from this position I'd check it...

jayson, i think you misread the post a little. it was heads-up, and he was essentially the button. and he never bet the pot in the HH, he's asking what he should do both pre-flop and on the flop, i think.pre-flop was okay. AAKK single-suited is a fine hand to play heads-up, but not a raising hand multiway, so a hefty pot-sized raise to isolate is fine. if there were two or more limpers, however, i would limp unless you were sure both would fold to a raise (which is usually not the case, but it sometimes is... go by your reads and the table texture). this is a drawing hand multiway.flop comes Q65, two clubs (of which you have none). he checks to you. what have you normally been betting with your good hands? i hope it's not pot-sized. i almost never bet the pot in PL, especially on bluffs, because that's just chip-spewing and it just bloats the pot so much, making your play much harder on the next street. after all, would you bet the pot on a bluff in NL? i hope not.i would bet around 1/2 - 2/3 of the pot here. if he calls, it's not too bad... you have an overpair that does well heads-up, as well as two draws to a set. at BEST, he has a set against you and will checkraise or smooth-call, but that's the reason you don't bet the pot. more likely, if he calls, is that he has only a law draw, or a club draw, or maybe some queen or two pair which more likely can get counterfeited.if he raises, i would fold, but go by your read (does he overvalue top pair, etc.). if he smooth-calls, play the turn. if you're unimproved but the draw didn't seem to hit, call his lead or bet out again if he checks again. if the draw seemed to have hit and he checks, check again, otherwise fold to a hefty bet or call him if he bluffs a lot in this game. play the river in a similar fashion. the key, when a draw hits, is to see as cheap a showdown as possible since you have a marginal hand in only one direction. you're hoping for a split if the low hits, otherwise you're in danger of getting scooped. if the flush hits, play it carefully.one of the biggest reasons you don't bet the pot usually is so that you can safely check-call a marginal hand down. if you only bet 1/2 pot on the flop and he calls and checks on the turn, you can check behind him if a draw seems to hit and safely afford to see a fairly cheap showdown. if you had bet the pot on the flop and checked behind him on the turn, he can now lead out for a much bigger pot-sized bet, technically around 150% of what he would otherwise have bet.so... your pre-flop play was fine in this case, and the post-flop play would probably be to bet around 1/2 pot and take it from there. remember that the key in PLO8 is to wait for your big edges, your free-rolls, your three-quarters/scoops, etc. remember not to marry these kinds of hands too often, but heads-up, this is okay.aseem
