last event?

Is this current tournament the last event of the year you can earn POY points in? Just curious if it was really close if one of the players could play in some little event in some godforsaken casino to try to steal the title?Jon

i can just see juanda sitting in a small indian casino in california on new years eve, begging this old guy to play faster, cause he needs to make the final table before the clock hits midnight.

I think they have to be certain tournaments otherwise people we have never heard of would be showing up.Besides, coordinating every casino with it's own small tournament just doesn't make sense. So it must be a pre-defined list of tournaments that qualify for POY points.

The criteria is such that you can't play in a bunch of low-end tournaments to pick up cheap points. This is off of Cardplayer.com:- Tournaments that have at least a $500,000 overall prize pool, 2003 land-based Player of the Year events, or tournaments in which the average prize pool per event is at least $200,000. For example, a one-event tournament (like Bellagio's Friday night tournament) will count if it has a prize pool of at least $200,000. Note: For a tournament to be grandfathered in for 2005, it must meet these new criteria. - Open events — seniors, dealers, and ladies-only events do not count - Main events — second-chance tournaments do not count - Events with at least a $300 buy-in — freeroll events do not count - Events in the United States , with a few exceptions. The World Poker Tour events at the Aviation Club in France , the UltimateBet tournament in Aruba , and the PartyPoker Million will be included.

Look in the back of CardPlayer. There is a list. The Belagio 5 Diamond Tournament is the last tournament of the year that counts for points.
