Best poker magazines?

Recommended Posts

Gambling Times is a good gambling magazine, and due to the recent rush in poker they've been concentrating on that lately.Casino Wire is an E-Zine you can find on CasinoWire.comAn easy one Poker Magazine, Haven't head much about it as of yet... have a nice layout on the website though (not nearly as nice as this one ofcourse!)All-In Magazine is the second magazine I'd recommend after CardPlayer ofcourse. Howard Lederer, Chris Ferguson and Phil Gordon all write for this magazine, Phil Gordon has always been a good writer, and i'm sure Fergusons articles are more mathmatical which is what most of us lack in, it can sometimes be the biggest difference in your play.Poker Runs America, dont know much, published 8 times a yearPoker -- Easy enough name for the magazine, Published only 3 times a year, going to guess they're rather large issues with a lot of good contentThere are PLETNY of free E-Zines that you can read as well if you look they aren't too hard to find.

Like quoting yourself often Jayson? ;)I think Jayson covered most of the big items from the poker magazine world. I just recently ordered all-in magazine just for kicks and additional reading material. Not sure of it's quality yet.I definitely have to say that Cardplayer is definitely the best quality magazine out there both in terms of the authors and content and the actual quality of the print/pages itself.

Yes the print/page quality of CardPlayer was just upgraded, if some of the people who've been recieving it lately didn't notice lol. The reason for that I think was All-In actually, because they have that quality on theres, so I think Card Player sees All-In as a big competitor which is good for us readers.

avsfan,Thanks so much for your post. Earlier Daniel had mentioned that he and Layne Flack would be on the cover of this magazine. I could not find it anywhere on the web. Now, I have a subscription because of your link! I also read the beginning of the feature article on Daniel and Layne and I can not wait until I get the magazine so I can read the whole thing! :D I am very excited!

Thanks for the replies, all.I write for 5th St., so I run the risk of looking like a spammer here. Don't take it that way, as I'm being 100% honest. I write for several mags, so I really don't have one to trump over another. 5th street really has a lot of promise. All glossy pages, wonderful lay-outs. The pics are the best I've seen in a poker mag. It is thin for the 1st issue, needs more material... but shows real promise.I remember the days of Daniel on LAP.com, avsfan. I sldo remember razzing you about my Flyers, too! -John Carlisle

Some more advice for you Avs,Tread lighlty as you go back into the B & M's. You may have changed yourself and your outlook on the game since you were there before. "You" may now be a slightly differnt "you." Ease into it and hit your comfort zone. It'll come to you, if you give it time.Use your chip marker as a focusing agent. When you place it on top of your holds, clear your mind and focus directly on the task at hand. Did you ever see those basketball pros doing those little rituals before the foul shot -- talking to themselves, a empty-handed practice shot, wtc? That is the same concept. Much more important in poker, though, as poker is intellectual and emotional in nature, not atheletic.

I subscribed to Bluff too and on the same day joined the Fantasy Poker Challenge. Since my #1 poker idol got first (and some other picks came through), I am near the top of the points leaderboard. Check it out - it could be your ticket to play heads up against Dan in the WSOP 2005 finals :-)

Recently I read an article about a news article magazine coming out called All-in. And as they like to say “The World’s Leading Poker Magazine”. They announced, in the new article, that they will be available Dec 21 in places like Wal-Mart, Barnes and Noble, and Borders. I went out shopping and was only able to find was able to find Poker Player, All-in and Card Player. I finished reading them here is my review.Poker player magazine, a gambling times Publication, Biweekly $3.95.It’s a larger format 14 x 10 which has a slick cover with newspaper inside. Mainly reviews of current poker tournaments with results of some of the smaller events, with some short advice columns and reviews of poker rooms. Has listings of upcoming events and weekly events at the various poker room in the US. Seems to be marketed for the Californian and Las Vegas crowd. Vol 8 #10 was 44 pages. No index or table of content. My main disappointment was that the magazine was dated Nov 15, 2004.All-In ,The World’s Leading Poker Magazine $4.99The one with Chris Ferguson on the label, Vol 1 #1??? Not label. Very Slick, kind of reminds me of Playboy . The first thing I notice is the letter from the Editor. There is a picture of Andy Bloch, Phil Gordon, Chris Ferguson, Howard Lederer, John Juanda, Eric Siedel and Phil Ivey. What a second, aren’t these the Full Tilt Boys? Are they trying to take over poker world. First a website now a magazine?Anyway, what I didn’t like: Beside The World’s Leading Poker Magazine on the top of the cover.Phil Helmuths’s Champion of the Year Standing: with John Juanda in first and Daniel Negreanu second. He doesn’t explain what he uses to come up with his point system. He has a list of twenty five people but nowhere on the list is David Pham or Gioui Luong or Scott Fischman.Pool side with Shana Hiatt: Ok I should get my money back for this. I would say the 5 of the worst pictures I have seen of her published. What a waste of beautiful talent.A review of hands played at celebrity poker: When I read this I thought the magazine was going to be a joke. What I did like: some of the instructional articles, thought they are not as in-depth as Card player articles, and the write up about the the Borgata in AC.Card Player, The Poker Authority (vol 17 #26) $5.95If no limited holdem is the Cadillac of poker. Card Player is the Cadillac of poker magazine.( Can I say that after only reviewing 3 magazine? ) It is not as slick as All-in but it contains lots more inside. All-in only had 14 articles listed in there table of content while Card player listed 33. Not only are there article writing by some of the best players of the game but also authors who have written books on the subject. They also carry listing of upcoming and weekly tournament as well as tournaments results. The only problem with this magazine is that it hard for me to find. I will reveiw the others when if I find them.
