Essay's Top Ten

Recommended Posts

I've heard of one of those songs. (At least by title. Maybe I would recognize a few more if I listened to them)

EDIT: I just clicked on all of them, and I haven't heard any of the songs a single time in my life except for #6.

I think he really really relates to Home Alone just for the title.

No issues with the top 4, although I would probably order them differently.

Fargo is definitely better than #9.

Mad Men can gtfo and Billions isn't top 10 worthy (yet), but its a damn fine show so I won't fight too hard on that one.

Out of curiosity, what shows just missed the cut?

I like it. Thumbs up to the inclusion of West World. Season 1 was one of my favourite seasons of TV ever. I still haven't watched Deadwood, need to get on that.

You should do a top 10 individual television seasons list.

A solid list. I think you wildly overrated Justified but over all I can cosign most of it. I suspect you have recency bias with Billions, though I don't want to slam on it too hard, because Paul G's marriage is the hottest of all time and I will support any kink-positive show.

At least you have your recency bias under control...

i hate to do it, but that's a warning. television is peaking. another show near top ten status is THE CROWN. i mean we are in the golden era right now.

i really dont think it's recency bias with billions. we're talking great subject matter, great writing, and two powerhouse actors giving us everything they've got. i can barely wait for season 3.

justified is an all time great show. we just differ on that.

See, I think Paul G is powerhouse, but I don't love Damien Lewis. I tell you who is a power house. Dollar bill also plays the reverend from the Americans, and he's unrecognizable from one role to the other. That guy can act his ass off.

Season 1 of Homeland was significantly better than season 1 of Westworld.<br />

these are two of my favourite individual seasons of TV ever, but I gotta disagree. I can't say either one was significantly better than the other.

My opinion on Homeland season 1 is so skewed by their decision not to kill Brody and foist those shit bag seasons 2 and 3 on us, that it's hard for me to view season 1 objectively. I'm becoming more and more convinced that anthology series are the way to go, because it's so hard to have a cohesive artistic vision that lasts for more than one season. As much as I love the Sopranos, I really think it lost it's artistic vision once Livia died. it's a testament to how good the writing was, and how amazing the characters were, that I continued to love it, even as it tread water plot wise, year after year. I give Breaking Bad so much credit for having a huge, grand plot line over several years that they were able to pull off shockingly well.
