Chet Chetterson 0
My guess is that Obama received the prize since they could not think of anyone else deserving. Maybe he won based only on the fact that he replaced Bush?I agree it makes no sense at all. Such is life.

wildspoke 2
This isn’t totally unprecedented. In 1987 Oscar Arias received the Nobel Peace prize for presenting A PLAN to end unrest in Central America.I think what happened was that the committee couldn’t agree on anyone so Obama was the default. We were supposed to pick the Nobel Peace Prize this morning! It's due in 5 minutes. Ah, screw it, just give it to Obama. I'm going back to bed."

CaneBrain 95
This is pretty farking ridiculous and I would be surprised if Obama himself wasn't shocked by this.I think everyone deep down knows that Obama basically won the "you're not Bush" prize. This is merely a "reward" for conducting international affairs in a way that Europe thinks is preferable.I read about a candidate who has been setting up schools for women in remote parts of Afghanistan. He would have had my vote. That takes some serious cojones. But, I hope (though after seeing Steele's comments I know it is a futile hope) that people wont get mad at Obama for this. He was not even aware he was nominated. He was as shocked as anyone. He handled it humbly and moved on. What exactly else should he do? Send it back? It's like cheering the US losing the Olympics. Really? Are you that happy to see Obama fail? Did you not want him to try and help get the Olympics? The right has reached the point (of openly rooting against him in all ways big and small) with Obama in 9 months that it took the left 4-5 years, a failed war built on false intel, and a failure to prevent the worst terrorist attack since Pearl Harbor to reach. Congrats.

Congrats. The anger has nothing to do with Obama personally. The anger is at the obvious political bias of the Nobel people. Obama has done nothing... but it's not his fault that he won. LOL at him 'not knowing' that he was nominated. (I have a bridge to sell you... yada yada)As for the last paragraph... Bush had nothing to do with the things that you mentioned. The intel was from the CIA and congress voted for the war. He also was in office less time than Obama has been when 9/11 happened. Think the media would blame Obama with the roles reversed?Obama desires to turn our country into a socialism... so I definitely hope he fails [at that]... but it's not because I hate my country, it's because I love it. Bush: the buck stops with the CIA.I think Fox News would blast Obama under similar circumstances while the msm would hedge between rallying around the president and asking pointed questions. He does not desire to turn the country into a socialism (whatever that means) he merely wants the country to be 65% capitalist 35% socialist (whereas most GOP members seem to prefer about 80/20). We have had lots of socialist ideas in this country for a very long time. We have even come to the point where people on both sides agree that some of them are good ideas. This is one of several retarded themes that the GOP never gets called on because it would actually take 30 seconds of discussion to explain it and that isnt happening on TV. Also, this is not just about you. There were crowds of conservative activists cheering when the news broke about Chicago's 4th place finish. Cheering America losing because it made Obama look like he failed. Maybe you are staying classy Brv, but the most vocal GOP supporters have gone off the deep end.Let me know about that bridge. Because I really dont think he knew. I think they would have been a little further ahead of the story if he had even an inkling he might win.

I don't mind that the US gets recognized and I actually found it funny how B O handled it. Made a joke about the kids telling him "hey Dad, you won the Nobel prize today and it's also the dogs BIRTHDAY!". Obama also said and admitted 'I don't deserve it and I don;t think I fall into the group who have done more' or some such words to that effect. I say no harm no foul on this one really and it's cool the USA gets the award, but...this award. A hollow shell of it's former self and now a bit of a politically biased joke imo. 85suited 0
It's like cheering the US losing the Olympics. Really? Are you that happy to see Obama fail? Did you not want him to try and help get the Olympics? Why would I want the olympics? The public school system is about $475 million in the red The city’s facing its own deficit of at least $200 million. The Chicago Transit Authority, which runs our public transportation system, is busted too, in more ways than one. CTA officials are in the thick of their annual budget crisis, warning of fare hikes and service cuts that could affect traffic in every part of town. They don’t have enough money to replace the old buses or repair the tracks that are falling apart. And then there are the TIFs: $550 million a year in property taxes siphoned from the schools and parks to feed slush funds that Mayor Daley controls with virtually no oversight. At the moment, the public is conveniently in the dark about them because they’re too complicated for the mainstream press to cover and our tax bills don’t reflect how much we’re paying to keep them fundedBut don’t worry – I am sure the games would have turned a profit & ran on budgetLondon, the host for the 2012 games, is now expected to spend $16.5 billion, nearly twice what it first estimated. Chicago has a fine track record of delays and cost overruns on public projects. The mayor may take you on a tour of Millennium Park while he’s here, but he probably won’t mention that it cost $475 million to build—a mere $325 million more than originally projected. You might like to take a stroll along the Chicago River, but the latest extension of the riverwalk won’t be finished until June. It’s cost taxpayers $22 million—double the original estimates.Take a drive down State Street while you’re here and see the enormous construction zone between Randolph and Washington. Block 37, as it’s known, has taken the city more than 20 years and tens of millions of dollars to develop, and under those newly constructed buildings is an unfinished train station that’s cost $250 million so far—more than twice the initial price tag.I am tired of our goverment spending money we do not have - when will this stop!nevermind all that - it would have been cool to have the Olympics - so lets go for 2020...Whaddya Think? Congrats.Yeah, I don't think anyone is mad at Obama over this, just embarrassed for/shocked about the Nobel committee.I just finished "Three Cups of Tea", the book about Greg Mortenson, the guy building the schools on the Pakistan/Afghanistan border. It's an amazing story, and yeah, he's definitely an excellent candidate for the Peace Prize. Over a decade spent going into a part of the world that hates Americans and showing the world how cool America can be. Also, he could be a foreign policy advisor to that area if he wanted to, he knows the people personally who are leaders in that area. So get the book if you haven't read it. 85suited 0
The belief that the government can solve basic economic and societal problems has given rise to programs medicare.medicade, Social Security, welfare-, public housing-all promising to free us from the uncertainty of life in exchange for our freedom. It's wrong to take the fruits of another's labor to pay for these things. It's also wrong to force people into a never-ending cycle of dependency, which is the only thing ultimately achieved by these programsHow did Johnson's "Great Society" turn out?
