I know this is probably a retarded question, but I heard someone refer to Jay-z as "hova" or something similar on the radio today. Can anyone tell me what the hell that means or stands for? Just curious.
He's been calling himself that forever...H to the izz-O, V to the izz-A.

Howie Day's EP came out today. he's still far better live, but getting to hear these songs in person last week makes me really really like them that much more.

Yup this is correct. Jehovah. It's Hebrew.

Yeah, I just finished my second spin through the album, and I have it tentatively slotted into my 2009 Top 10 at the moment. The track "Laughing With a Mouth of Blood" is my favorite, but I really think it should've been "Mouthful." I think I'd like it better if it were "mouthful of blood." I wish I lived in a real place where stuff like "random indie acts I enjoy play free shows at a local record store," or "random indie acts I enjoy occasionally play within 45 miles."
I'm enjoying it as well. Fun fact I didn't know before: St. Vincent's first album, Marry Me, is named after Maeby's use of the phrase in AD.I'm also enjoying the new Camera Obscura. I guess I'm on a female vocalist kick.

So, I went to see St. Vincent today at the Virgin Megastore in Union Square. Unfortunately, this amazing store is closing for good in a few weeks, and that's going to be a major blow to my cd buying. But that's a different story. She played a short set of songs from her new album, but she's fantastic live and a short set is better than no set. She always finds a place to bust out some grinding guitar solos, which is always cool. Plus she's just incredibly cutesy on stage, so that's fun too.I went with one of my friends. He had recently started growing a beard and wasn't sure how he felt about it. Before the show began, we met up with another friend (a girl) who made it quite clear that she didn't approve of my friend's beard. He's a pretty self-conscious guy in general, so this didn't make him feel so great. After the concert, Annie was having one of those always awkward cd signings. I'm not huge into silly things like this, but I was buying a cd anyway and the line was short, so I decided to get an autograph. I was before my friend in line, and when it was my turn I stepped up to her little both thingy. We had a little awkward chit chat and I joked with her about not being able to open the cd (which I couldn't; it was jammed shut and it took me a few minutes in the privacy of my own home to actually get it open). I then lead in and said to her, "Okay, here's the deal. My friend in line right behind me is unsure whether or not he likes his beard, so you have to be sure to tell him that it looks really good." She gave me a nod of acknowledgment, wrote me an autograph, I thanked her and I stepped aside.I watched my friend step up to her booth, and after a few moments he looked over at me, gave me an awkward look, and I overheard him saying, "He told you to say that..." Evidently she had written "I like your beard" on his copy of the cd.He thought it was pretty funny. He then asked me what she had written on my cd. I had forgotten to look, actually, since I was caught up in explaining the situation to Annie, so I pulled out my cd.It said, "Dearest Yorke, You have a nice beard too. xo -Annie"

Okay, so I decided to make an iPod playlist for myself this morning before I went to campus. I planned on incorporating my favorite tracks from the new albums I'd listened to, as well as a handful of older songs. All-in-all, when I started, I assumed I'd end up with a 15-20 track playlist I could listen to a few times this afternoon. Here's what I ended up with:Junior Boys- Parallel Lines (Begone Dull Care)Junior Boys- In the Morning (So This Is Goodbye)Dan Deacon- build voice (Bromst)St. Vincent- Laughing With a Mouth of Blood (Actor)St. Vincent- Marrow (Actor)That's it. Five songs. I added everything but "In the Morning" right off the bat, since I'd decided those were my four favorite songs from the new stuff. Then I decided, Hey, I haven't heard that old Junior Boys album in a while. I remember "In the Morning" was kinda sweet, and I went on a date with Vanessa in Detroit and that was playing in the car for some reason. I must've had it on a CD, right? So I added that song. Then I decided I was done. I've been listening to that 5-song loop all day. Sometimes I'd play the St. Vincent songs over and over, and on one occasion I listened to the climax of "build voice" (from about 3:47-4:19) for 10 minutes straight. I have been in a good mood all day, but I feel as if my mental health has deteriorated even further from what I thought was my nadir. I could go on, but I've been talking a lot around these parts in the last 36 hours.
Quack, Qua-...

I mean, RAAAAAAWWWR!

How did this become a picture of me? I always thought this was the accepted image of me:Posted ImageI hadn't shaved in a bit over a week, so I had some awkward scruffiness going on at the time. I don't know if it qualifies as a beard, but that's what she was referring to.

I imagine you as an Asian version of him. It's not a Top 5 Forum Mystery, but it might be in the Top 10 (your race, that is). It is also possible that I'm the only one who A. thinks about this, and/or B. doesn't know your race. I almost want to make a thread listing some forum mysteries - not to get solutions, but just for the hell of it. Mostly things like who is RR and where is JJJ and what is the deal with beans and will he have my children.
