Poker Websites - Helpful?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering how many players here have gone to something like PokerVT or Cardrunners and found it to be extremely helpful in learning the games of poker? I am looking to take a run at improving my game and possibly playing full time in the near future and I have 0 friends whom play poker with me in real life. So my learning will be in a Casino by myself or through some source online. Any recommendations is greatly appreciated even if its "The sites aren't very helpful".Thanks.

Learning in a Casino by yourself is a great way to make some poker "friends". Thats what I did. When you play a lot you run into the regulars often and get to know them. Than you start talking poker and you can learn a lot from those guys. I did. Thats where I really excelled my game. Having said that, I am a player who is always broke due to bad bankroll management so take my advice if you dare.

cardrunners, deucescracked. they are all wonderful site. i would suggest playing some online to get your volume up, you get 3x as many hands played pre hour, and you can play like 10nlhe, if you can crush that online you will crush most live games.

2+2 used to be a good site to follow, there is still some meat there, the online magazine is good.

Whats best, free if possible, video/sound capture program?also deuces cracked so far has been decent, thanks for the suggestion
Camtasia Studio is a great screen recording program. It is an expensive program, but has a free 30(?) day trial which you can use. There is a freeware version: Camstudio. I have not tried it, but I hear it is not quite as good as Camtasia, but hey, it's free.

When you buy programs like Holdem Manager or CamtasiaStudio are they yearly fee's or 1 time purchases?Thank you for the recommendation ill give it a look.
The Holdem Manager fee is a one-time purchase (and IMO definitely worth it).I never ended up purchasing Camtasia Studio (I don't use it often enough to justify purchasing it after the trial period expired). The next time I do some video recording, I will probably give Camstudio a try and see if it will suit my needs.

My holdem manager is ugly and hope when I purchase it the appearance changes. Otherwise Ill be digging to find out how to make it look better. here is how mine looks currently.hmtable.jpgPretty hard to use :club: Any idea if when you buy the program the actual default appearance is different?

Yeah, that's the default appearance (and still is after purchase). There is a *ton* of flexibility for customization, however. I'm at work so I can't post a screen shot of mine, but I have an elaborate setup for my HU tables and a very sparse and concise setup for my FR tables. You can pretty much have whatever stat you want displayed and are free to move them wherever you want on your table. It's not that hard to do (once you get the hang of it) but can take a little time investment. The HEM forums (and other poker forums too -- probably 2+2 for example) has a lot of pre-made HUD setups that other people have posted, so if you don't have the time or inclination to design your own, you can probably find one that you like and then modify it to fit your own preferences.
