The Vegas/poker Themed Screenplay “Vegas Knights” Wins Its 3Rd Honor.

...At what point do you stop resting on the little recognition you got and start asking yourself why nobody has been interested in the five years since?...
I have received several offers to buy the script, but their offers were too low. And a lot of scripts sit on the shelves for years:

From Wiki on Development Hell:

Gangs of New York: Martin Scorsese first started trying to get Gangs of New York made in 1978. He finally did so in 2002, and a good deal of Scorsese's DVD commentary on the film is devoted to explaining the arduous process.

John Carter spent the longest time in development hell of any film to date. The original production dated as far back as in 1931, placing the film in development hell for 81 years.

But all it takes is one poker or gambling lover with clout or serious money... Geez, half of Hollywood is into poker.

Let's see, Scorsese spent 24 years trying to get his project made. So I have 19 years to go to catch up with him.

I have a question for world famous script writer, Gerry Burlage. Do you like renaissance faires?

Just so we're clear:   You're counting making this list as one of the 'honors'?

Things don't move as quickly as you think in the screenplay world, Guapo. In the industry (that's what we insiders call it. You might know it as "Hollywood") it takes years, and at least three natio

You got legitimate offers and rather than actually seeing your project put on screen you decided to hold out for more? Interesting strat.

Absolutely there are examples of screenplays that have been shelved for years generally speaking they were passion projects by established industry people but it's certainly a possibility.

You answer everything I say in the most inane run around/avoidance cycle. But since you looped around to it I totally agree that half of Hollywood loves poker and the fact that they aren't actively looking to get involved with poker as a movie concept should say something but if for some reason they do as asked before why would they look to you or your screenplay instead of either writing themselves or sourcing the project to one of the many award winning writers they likely associate with?

Think about how long the Chase crew pined over Medellín, and look how that turned out.

It's a search and destroy mission, get it right. First the searching, THEN the destroying. Not just wanton destruction for destruction's sake, you gotta seek it out first.

You idiots just don't understand mainline America.

One wonders if any of the more cynical posters here have written a three time award winning script. I doubt it. Yet one man has done so, and in service of a pastime we all love. What if this award winning piece had been put into production 10 years ago? Quite possibly the game of poker would be more popular then ever. As it stands, with poker's growth in the population centers of Asia (i.e. large Asian countries) there is no limit to the success this film might find. My continuing astonishment that this script has not yet been purchased is only surpassed by my dismay regarding the criticizm brought to its creator.

Shame on all of you.

This was how I felt at first too, which is why I was interested in investing, but Gerry Burlage's continued behavior of lashing out personally at everyone who criticizes him put me off. That, and the review I quoted a bit ago casts serious doubt on the actual quality of this script.

I think that we would all love to see another good poker movie get made, but more and more it seems that this isn't the script, or the author, that is going to give it to us.

Many creative geniuses are tempermental and difficult to work with. VKs defensiveness may actually be evidence of his gifts. He certainly dosen't deserve to be martyred.

Well, until said creative geniuses have gotten their foot in the door, they'd be wise to stay humble, or at least to fake humility. You catch more flies with honey and all that.

Well, I think we can all agree on that

And rounders is a corny piece of shit, that is only good for it's unintentional humor. California Split is the only good poker movie I've ever seen.

I never thought about it that way.

VK is really a creative genius. All the haters just cannot see the brilliance that is the man and his script. He and his dream can revive the struggling poker industry; restore respect and fame to poker players around the world; and allow VK to achieve the fame and fortune he so richly deserves.

Nah.

I'll buy him a case of kleenex though.

"Foot in the door"? The guy has already won three awards, how far in the door can one foot be? The people here giving him advice have won far fewer awards, likely none. I'm sure if someone with a four time award winning poker screenplay offered advice, he would be happy to listen.

Look, I'm not here to denigrate this guy, and in fact part of me is still sort of interested in investing in this. He just hasn't acquitted himself very well by the way that he has acted, and I'm still far from sure that this is actually a script worth investing in. I realize your response will be about multiple awards, but I'm still skeptical unless the OP can add some credibility to these awards by pointing to scripts that entered the contests and actually ended up being turned into films.
