Adapting To Memory Loss And Poker

Recommended Posts

HI, I am a new member here.(found you from link from twitter to Daniels video blog)I have been laid off work due to an injury received which affected my long term memoryThis has meant that I cant recall peoples names never mind previous hands playedI can recall some things after a week or so and most things for a few days but in a month its goneI use HEM now so i can see stats but forget / cant retain knowledge to exploit it fully so rely on the HUD onlyIf I watch a training video i forget it soon after and only when i watch it again do i get the deja vu feeling and sometimes total recall...This led me to playing a very exploitable TAG game and i am now trying to adjust my 3/4 betting, floating, bet sizing etc each session but i dont know whether i am just repeating styles ....sighSo basically I am asking for any tips which may helpI have started writing in a book each session played and recorded a few notes and also making more notes on players as to their actions (tips to adding notes would help as well, ie 3boopwJ10sPF ( 3 bet out of position with Jack 10 suited pre flop) works Ok but after a while it gets messy and confusing but want something more than 'tight fish!'I play online mtts mostly with $5-$20 buy ins and an odd punt at higher games and do make a slight profit atm (currently +$1700 for year)I am a social player not requiring income from poker but do want to improve Prior the incident i played less poker but made more ...Thank You

Come up with a system for colour coding people if the site you play on has a feature like that.

colour coding too definative i feel , if i 'red' him/her as aggro it may be just they have been getting hands that session and next time i play i call light and they have a hand ..do feel that my exploitable TAG style is way to go and be happy with showing a profit albeit there will be situations where I am 3 bet / floated etc out of winning hand..

Write down specific hands and actions you see a player making in the notes on the client, not in a book. You'll spend far too much time thumbing through your book to find out what's up.The moment you see something interesting they did, write it down. Make some kind of note in there like (?) that means it's something you observed, but doesn't necessarily mean they'll do it again. If you see it again, mark it as (?)(!), so you know there's a possible pattern. If it happens once more, take out the (?)(!), as it's a confirmed pattern.Something like that would help, I think.

I'd imagine writing a lot of information down would be key.Maybe playing a more 'mechanical' type of game might suit you too, e.g. instead of playing deep stack cash games where history plays a huge part, play hyper turbo SNGs where memory of what players have done in the past don't make too much of a difference to the right play (then again, this may be bad information, not sure what your memory would be like for memorizing pushing/calling ranges etc.)
