#3756130 The Magically Delicious

Posted Ottawa_Biatch on 08 April 2017 - 06:57 PM

Wow can't believe it actually happened. These playoffs have been an absolute roller coaster of emotions.

I thought it would be funny to give a quick recap the history of the Magically Delicious and how we luck boxed our way into the title.

To think back to 2009, when I originally took over the team with guys like can't miss prospect Nikitia Filiatov & high priced FA rental stud D man Nicklas Lidsteon. The team actually had a lot of young talent and I could have built thru the draft. I'll admit I tried and failed.

In 2014, I finally realized this strategy wasn't working. I'm the first to admit I give zero f*cks about fantasy prospects and a poor judge of talent. So I did what I think I do better then most at, creative trades. There was no salary cap at the time and I was wondering why nobody exploited the rule. So I did, lol. Unfortunately, I had Crosby and Malkin, and they both got injured in the playoffs, and I fell to the Gothic in 4 in the Conference Finals.

In 2015, the rules were changed to prevent me from doing this, I became a little creative but nothing really meaningful came from it. I lost in the second round to Negreanu. I was actually up 3-1 in the series and he delivered a dick cheese pizza to my door and won 3 straight to knock me out.

2016 was a dud year, didn't even make the playoffs.

2017, honestly, the plan was originally to draft some high priced FA and then flip them for future picks and young talent. My idiot self tho asked for way too much and nobody wanted Stamkos, Malkin, Coutoure etc for my ridiculous price. So the plan was to trade them at the deadline but then my junk ass team had a decent lead in the division. The degenerate in me, said screw it, I know my team isn't as good as the top tier teams but the playoffs are a crapshoot. So I went all in and did my usual thing. Big name super forwards and no name defencemen. I just made some crazy moves and you know the rest.

Just a shout out to PK Dealers. One of the nicest guys in the league. Texting me about injuries and stuff. They will be back next year.

I just want to thank all the teams in the playoffs and the league. This has been super enjoyable and it's fun seeing you all. I am so happy. Imaginary high fives for everyone.

The predictions are in no way meant to insult or offend anyone. They are purely for entertainment value.

AHL CUP FINAL

Magic Delicious (47-28-2) 118.0 vs
Pkdealers (40-37-5) +/- 121.0

Injuries

Magically Delicious
Steven Stamkos TB indefinitely
Artem Anisimov CHI day to day
Evgeni Malkin PIT day to day

Pkdealers
Tyler Myers WPJ gone season
Shane Prince NYI Day to day
Kris Letang Pitt day to day
Trevor Daley Pitt April
Ryan Murray CBJ late april
Tim Schaller BOS day to day
Cody Franson BUFF day to day

The 13-year North/East dominance finally comes to an end as the 2016/17 finals will feature a South vs West match-up. Both teams will be making their first appearance in the finals, and for a 4th year in a row, a new champion will be crowned. Magically Delicious cruised to a division title first round bye, tamed the wild Mustangs 4-1, and then used a voodoo curse to upset the presidents trophy winning Canadian Gothic 4-1. Pkdealers meanwhile harpooned the mighty Whalers 4-1, un-capitalized the Big M's in a thrilling 7 games, and distracted the Swackers into photshopping/trash talking and not focusing on his team in a 4-1 series win.
Magic Delicious team owner Dan over the years has proven masterful at pulling off some miracle trades. The smart owners won't trade with him, however they will be sitting on the sidelines this year. He is one of the few owners that had a new rule implemented when he found a flaw in the system (Cap Max/Floor). He could prove this year that the phrase "all offence/ no defense" has a chance to win the AHL title. PkDealer team owner Roy H has instead gone with a very balanced attack, reeling off 17 straight playoff game scores of 1.5 or higher.
With a full 6 days off before start of the finals, both teams have a chance to get some healthy players back. While PkDealers have way more injuries, Delicious has the more dominate players missing. The first 3 games will be shorter nights and Pkdealers will need to go 2/3 to have any chance as the last 4 are full nights with best/best. I would expect another nail-biting series that goes down to the wire. Prediction Magic in 7.

For a third time my record for this round was brutal as I was 0-2, overall playoffs 6-10

Daniel's "Who I'm rooting for in this round" did better and went 1-1. now 15-5

I can only hope that Daniel picks us or else we have no chance.
Good luck Magic Dan,

So, please please please....give me Sunday AHL hockey gods.

That Sunday/Monday thing must work.
First time ever in the history of the AHL, that Pkdealers have won a game against Big M's in the playoffs.

On a side note
2016-17 Big M's record for Sunday games, 5 wins, 7 loses.
2016-17 Big M's undefeated in all Monday games.
Glad there is no game tonight. :icon_dance:

The predictions are in no way meant to insult or offend anyone. They are purely for entertainment value.

Eddie Shack Conference

#1 vs #6

Canadian Gothic (47-25-5) +/- 205.5 vs
Shootloose (38-36-2) +/- 134.0

Injuries

Canadian Gothic
Erik Gudbranson Van indefinitely

Shootloose-
Mattias Janmark DAL indefinitely

Presidents trophy winner Canadian Gothic must be itching to get back in playoff action this year. After 3 straight years of coming out of the Eddie Shack Conference, he was sent packing in the first round by AHL 3 time champion Cheap Thieves. On paper Gothic has the best lineup in AHL. Shootloose knocked off defending Champion Steelheads in a close 7 game series. As always Gothic team owner Dale M. has all goalies covered, while Shootloose has an empty game #6. Injuries will not play a factor. Shootloose will be hard pressed to win 2 games let alone 4. Prediction Gothics in 5.

#4 vs #5

Magic Delicious (47-28-2) 118.0 vs
Mustangs (40-30-6) +/-148.5

Injuries

Magically Delicious
Steven Stamkos TB indefinitely

Mustangs-
Benoit Pouliot EDM Day to day

A clash of 2 rivals (I guess everyone is a Mustangs rival) will once again pit a very strong forward lineup team(Magic) vs a very strong defence lineup team(Mustangs). Serge B. has ridden team beast Brett Burns right to the second round and hopes to continue to conference finals. Team Magic owner Dan as always managed to make some key trades to compensate for huge lose of Steve Stamkos. Only one empty goalie night for game 6 Mustangs. Another very close series I think. With Stamkos, nod goes to Magic, however without him Mustangs prevail. Prediction Mustangs in 7.

Tiger Williams Conference

#1 vs #6

Big M's (48-27-2) +/- 205 vs
Pkdealers (40-37-5) +/- 156.0

Injuries

Big M's
Connor Carrick Tor day to day

Pkdealers
Tyler Myers WPJ gone season
Shane Prince NYI Day to day
Kris Letang Pitt day to day
Trevor Daley Pitt April

Another #1 seed who is itching to get back in playoff action (get swept in finals for 3rd year in a row?). Once again team owner Bob M has the Big M's ready to go. A strong offence/defence/goaltending lineup, and oh by the way farm help will make the Big M's favourite to repeat as Conference winners. PkDealers were able to upset the favourite Whalers, but will need to do even better to continue on. Injured top defenceman Kris Letang needs to return if they have any chance against the Big M's. Even with Klingburg and Krug playing few games in this series, midnight will strike on the Pkdealers. Prediction Big M's in 6 games

#2 vs #5

Swackers (46-31-1) +/-149.5 vs
Broadway (44-37-1) +/- 144.5 vs

Injuries
Swackers
Johan Larsson Buff out season

Broadway
Bryan Rust PIT day to day
Joonas Donskoi SJS day to day
Dylan DeMelo SJS mid march
Anton Rodin VAN day to day

Look out for team Swacker. Team owner Dave R. has his team primed for his first playoff appearance in a few years. His players (Forsberg) did not recive the memo that Swacker won a first round bye and to take it easy the last week. Hopefully he did not use up all his scoring in a non-playing round. Team owner John pulled out a victory over Shortstackers, and now hopes to avenge division title lose. Injuries don't play a big factor and only Broadway has an empty goalie night. Both teams share 2 goalie sets, and I think this will come down to better farm players. Another close series, but team Ireland looks to advance to conference finals. Prediction Swackers in 7 games

Round 1 predictions record 4-4(I suck)

Even Daniels "wish" list was a better prediction 6-2 record.

Good Luck to all teams.

As much as it still stings that Im out, Im kind of excited about this 2nd round of the AHL, not going to walk away and sulk. I like that each matchup has a cool personal/FCP flavour to it, it would have been even more interesting if we had Chris in there too over shoot loose. (with all due respect to that team)

This is how I see round 2, less so Ortenzio's real analysis, more so my "im bored and felt like talking AHL hockey" viewpoint:
Gothic vs Shoot Loose: This is the equivalent of getting my 3 year old nephew to play one on one basketball against his 6ft 8" godfather who played University Ball. There will be some pleasantries, and smiles, but over fairly quick. Globetrotters dont lose to the Generals, it just doesnt happen.

Magic vs Mustangs: This is the All-Troll Matchup, guys you love to hate. You love them, then you hate them, then you....well, lets hope love them. Interesting part will be if Stamkos comes back, but more interesting will be if the clear better team wins. Wait, which one is the better team? The one who won a division, or the one who outscored the team 148-114? 'Stangs are gonna win, just because lets face it, the whole world wants a Gothic vs Stangs semifinal, and the fix is in.

Swackers vs Broadway: If the other one is the guys you love to hate, this is the guys you love to love series. Everyone, and I mean, everyone, wants both these guys to win. Pretty sure Daniel picked these two teams as the ones he wants to win it all, and then to also win the World Series and get Noble Prizes. Picking a winner here is like Pizza or Sex, which one do you want? WHY CANT I HAVE BOTH?!?! Im gonna go Swackers, because, well, Guinness!

PK Dealers vs Big M's: Ever wake up in the morning, and think, yay, its Sunday!!!!....until you realize that its actually Monday?!?! This is how I feel every time someone comes close to beating Bob, and then you see later on that he won anyway. Its always fcking Monday around here. So, please please please....give me Sunday AHL hockey gods. If john vs dave is the guys you love, this is the "lets face it, we're all rooting for PK' Series. just the way bob likes it. damn. Come on Ortenzio, work that magic!

Otto biatch and I will be at lac leamy next weekend. Come and join us

Fun weekend in Ottawa even though they closed the Rideau.

Went twice to Lac Leamy. Some bad luck on Saturday night. The casino was packed. A ton of people. Funny thing is Otto bumped into someone he knew at the casino. Lost $250 with Biatch and than he left. Played blackjack switch and grounded out a profit of $175 so lost $75 (lost $200 on my last 3 hands). Decided to call it a night at 2 am.

Head back the next night solo. Decided to play 1/2 nl. Hands of course we gross. Nothing exciting all night except one hand. I was sb and guy on puck (tight player) raised to $20 so I called and bb went all in for $80 (i put him on jacks). Raiser justed called which I found strange. My hand was ak suited and I thought hey I am getting odds to call plus nothing all night. Flop an ace and raiser went all in for another $100. I called right away and he said oh no made a mistake. Both guys had queens

I called it a night at midnight up $220. So small profit for the weekend.

The predictions are in no way meant to insult or offend anyone. They are purely for entertainment value.

Eddie Shack Conference

#3 vs #6

Steelheads (48-27-2) +/- 184.0 vs
Shootloose (39-36-2) +/- 141.0
Season series tied 3-3

Injuries

Steelheads-
Paul Stastny STL Day to Day
Erik Johnson COL Late-Feb
Johnny Oduya DAL Day to Day
Brad Richardson ARI Mid-March
Conor Sheary PIT Day to Day
Jacob Trouba WPG 2 game suspension

Shootloose-
Mattias Janmark DAL indefinitely

The Steelheads look to defend their title with a first round match against Shootloose. Proving how much the make-up of a team can change in a short time, the Steelheads have gone from having an amazing farm at the start of last year to possibly one of the current worse. That being said they have a well balanced team and have moved up to 3rd overall in +/-. Team owner Chris T. has been boasting " I have the hottest team since Christmas", which is ironic considering his profession has him trying to reduce the heat. The schedule has Shootloose missing most of his best forwards through the first 4 games, which will probably be too big a hole to overcome. Steelheads will have an empty goalie night for game #4, but otherwise field very strong lineups games #1-#6. Shootloose would have the favoured lineup in game 7, however I don't see it going that long. Prediction Steelheads in 5.

#4 vs #5

Red ravens (41-32-4) +/-141.0
Mustangs (40-31-6) +/-152.0 vs
Season series Red Ravens 4-2

Injuries

Mustangs-
Benoit Pouliot EDM Day to day

Red Ravens-
Kyle Quincey NJD Day to day
Ales Hemsky DAL indefinitely
Sven Baertschi VAN Day to Day
Bobby Ryan OTT 4-6 weeks

Even though both teams have different strengths, this series looks to be very close,. Red Ravens will have 4 of the top 20 NHL point getters available at forward. While the team will lack defensive help, team owner Brian C. has done well to acquire farm help (2015 draft Hanifan and 2016 draft rookie scoring sensation Patrick Laine, as well as swacker trade for Leon Draisaitl). Two empty goalie nights might be an issue for the low scoring nights. On the other side the Mustangs have a strong defense lead by Brett “the bearded beast” Burns, and a solid forward corps. Mustangs will have to deal with a game #1 empty goalie night. Team owner Serge B. proved all doubters wrong this year when he signed Burns to a very high $14.50 contract, but has benefited greatly. Like a Sidney Crosby, Burns can single handily win games for the Mustangs. A very hard series to predict, so I will make the injuries and the empty goalie nights the swing factor. Prediction Mustangs in 7.

Tiger Williams Conference

#3 vs #6

Whalers (46-28-2) +/- 167.0 vs
Pkdealers (37-35-5) +/- 121.0
Season series Whalers 3-2

Injuries

Whalers
Stephen Johns DAL Day to day
Andre Burakovsky WSH late March
Gustav Nyquist DET suspension

Pkdealers
Tyler Myers WPJ gone season
Shane Prince NYI Day to day

After starting the season slowly, the Whalers made a huge push to end the season and almost grabbed the #1 seed away from the Big M's. As always the Whalers have a very balanced team with solid forwards, very good defense, and even usable farm help at their disposal. Team owner Arp S. has been masterful at motivating his players to perform on AHL nights all season. For example Derek Ryan, ahl game nights for Ryan gp-16,g-8,a-6 for a 0.690 AHL score, while for non-ahl nights Ryan has gp-25,g-0,a-4 for a 0.080 AHL score. 800% better on AHL nights!!!!!, I can't argue with that math. The Pkdealers also started the season off very poorly and at one point were 15 points out of a playoff spot. Getting some injured players back and some mid season trades by team owner Roy H. have climbed the dealers into a playoff spot. However, facing the Whaler might be a very difficult task to overcome. Even with the one empty goalie night and late season suspension to Nyquist, Whalers should squeak by. Prediction Whalers in 6.

#4 vs #5

Broadway (41-34-2) +/- 144.5 vs
Shortstackers (41-33-3) +/- 142.5
Season Series Broadway 3-2

Injuries

Broadway
Bryan Rust PIT day to day
Joonas Donskoi SJS day to day
Dylan DeMelo SJS mid march
Anton Rodin VAN day to day

Shortstackers
Matthew Dumba MIN day to day
Mike Green DET day to day
Tobias Enstrom WPJ week to week
Drew Stafford WPJ day to day
Mark Stone OTT day to day

A repeat match-up of last years first round. Both teams have had ups and downs this year. Both teams are dealing with some injuries to key players and that will factor into who comes out on top. Team owner Zack H. must very confident in his teams chances as he will not even be at their opening game, and instead in transit travelling out of country. Meanwhile Broadway owner John T. has had in-country presidential distractions that might hurt his team management ability. Goalies could very well be New York Rangers vs Nashville for all games #1 to #6. Probably the closest match-up of the first round. Last year Shortstackers prevailed, however this year Broadway I think gets revenge. Prediction Broadway in 7.

Eddie Shack Conference Reject Cup

#7 vs #10

Puck warfare (37-38-1) +/- 129.5 vs
Underdogs (31-42-4) +/- 120.5

After being a division winner for the last 3 years, Puck Warfare stumbled out of the gate and could never recover. The Underdogs started well, but injuries and opponent scoring derailed the dogs. This series will probably be decided by injuries as Warfare is fairly healthy and the Underdogs will be dealing with missing players. Puck Warfare owner Jay was able to acquire the top goalie set of the year and that should send him to victory. Prediction Puck Warfare in 6

#8 vs #9

Winning Combo (35-41-1) +/- 116.0 vs
Cheap Thieves (34-41-2) +/- 74

After making the playoffs for so many straight seasons, the Cheap Thieves failed to make playoffs for the first time since the dawn of the AHL. Both teams decided early in Jan 2017 that the playoffs were not in the cards this year, and as such started the rebuilding process. Like his hometown Las Vegas Knights, team owner Daniel N. going all out in rebuilding and has acquired major assets for upcoming years. Cheap Thieves and Winning Combo will field a combined $70 salary, so positive scores will be usually enough to win. Prediction Winning Combo in 6

Tiger Williams Conference reject cup

#7 vs #10

Ingman (33-43-1) +/- 76.5 vs
Screaming Eagles (25-48-4) +/- 91.0

Screaming Eagles started the season as one of the favorites to win the South, but a couple sophomore slumps and some injuries proved too much to overcome. Team owner Wayne I. troubles started on draft day when Ingman’s 2nd in command Otto was recruited by Serge B to draft players for Mustangs at auction. Just proves how much a loss of a top management position is hard to recover from. The winner of this series should be the favorite to win the reject cup. Eagles won reject cup last year, but I think this year Ingman wins it. Prediction Ingman in 6

#8 vs #9

Shooters (28-43-6) +/- 112.0 vs
Greasballs (26-48-3) +/- 74.5

Not much to say about this match up. Mc Jesus will decide this series. Prediction Greasballs in 6.

Good luck to all teams (well maybe not Arp)
