and after 3 days, he is risen!

If you are paying $20 for a haircut, I imagine people assume you did it yourself anyway.

Pocket change cost me my first and only black girlfriend.   It was in the middle of a roaring poker boom and I was flush in ways most men don't even bother dreaming of. Money, it was like dirt to me

I can’t tell if you’re sympathizing or mocking me.

The best part, imo, that I failed to mention was VP’s who already got 2-4x salary bonuses (because we had such a good year) also will be receiving these bonuses.

That is all the bonus I will be getting. My position is not bonus eligible. I would not be opposed to a new job as I’m less than thrilled about being party to the inherent predatory nature of retail banking sales but job hunting sucks and I don’t believe in myself enough to think I could actually get a better job anyways.

This webinar has some phenomenal guidance for career maintenance. It is tailored to project management but generally applies to any industry it seems.

I am trying not to jump to the conclusion that you should bail. It sounds like not a terrible place to spend the next 1-2 years, until the next step. That’s kinda where I’m at, just trying to keep myself feeling OK about my situation.

My bonus is complete garbage compared to what my douche ex boss received for his abysmal 2017. And, he was allowed to buy $100k+ in equity in my firm, which appreciated 25%+ over the last 12 months. This is what I mean when I say this is arbitrary winner-take-all bullshit.

Basically, the guy had some general guidance like, look for things you can take from your boss. Constantly try to learn, don’t let yourself think you know all there is to know about what you do. Look to advance in rank at least once every two years, and never stay in the same position for more than 4-5yrs. Build your own personal brand with the quality of your work.

I could have saved myself years of ass kickings if I had seen that webinar immediately after college. There is a bunch of stuff in there about keeping your resume current and not staying with the same company for your whole career, but I still shared the slides with the #2 in my firm. I think we need to just create our own version of that webinar to show all our new aspiring advisors on day one.

The never stay in a position more than 5 years has me curious. Is that role type specific? I mean I don’t see how that applies to my world. Once I get where I wanna be I wanna be there until they say I retire.

I applied to a shop in KC tonight. It was a particularly frustrating day at the office, and my first time filling out an app in multiple years. The listing was written for my resume. In the cover letter, for the software referenced in the job listing, I walked through the specific data reports I would use to automate the most difficult sounding task in the job responsibilities list. It was satisfying.

Basically, I'm going to have to work with the douche that tried to position himself above me and the COO. For reasons I don't understand, the COO decided to keep him involved as a contributor. I did my best to stone face the situation, and didn't voice any disapproval, but was fooling no one. Felt like the beginning of the end of my ability to be honest and open with my boss.

Big dog don't need to bark to let the other dogs know he owns the porch.

So, basically what happened was we had a meeting with the cfo, our boss, and two product managers (retail and business, which is important to note that I handle the retail side and the other analyst deals with the business side of things).

The meeting was more less just me showing off some models I built for the two product managers, not even realizing that I probably should have told the business lady to deal with the other analyst, and then another model I built to deal with interest rate changes. After that was done the other analsyt, our boss, and the cfo stayed and had a meeting about something that i wasn't party to so i left.

Afterwards I'm sitting at my cube and he walks by my desk, unnecessarily, to say good job (because he thinks hes my psuedo manager or something?) and so i grunt and go back to working and then i realize he's still standing there so I turn around and he shows me this sheet of some formula from our reporting software that he broke into 3 parts and told me how hard it was because of the parenthesses. And I'm just like, ha, i bet, and then he leaves.

Later, I stop by my bosses office to ask for some days off and he jokingly says something along the lines of "don't make your first version of these things so good because now everybody wants to give you more projects" and then says something about how the CFO was really impressed with those models. So, that makes me think they talked about them after I was gone which is why the other analyst was feeling really threatened.

Yeah, I try to stay out silly office politics and to never complain about coworkers to other coworkers but sometimes I slip up and find myself telling somebody else how annoyed I am that someone gave me a project with only two hours to do it or whatever. Not a huge deal but also not a good look.
