5K heads up on stars...

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I was watching the 5K HU tourney's on Stars. I usually see the same faces playing in this tourney for obvious reasons. Then John D'Augostino sat down and won w/in 20 mins. He again sat down and beat the same individual this time in 2 hands. 10 large in less than a half hour. It got me to wondering, why don't more big time poker players (i.e. professionals) take advantage of these tournaments? Most of the PPL playing in the 5K HU tourney, are not professionals by any means. Usually just ppl that have money to burn or someone who got lucky inone of the bigger multi-tables and is trying to make a buch as quick as possible. I know of one individual who is an 18 yr old kid. This kid is above average in terms of skill, but far too loose/agressive to consistently beat a 5K HU game. If being a pro is exploiting situations to their fullest, I wonder why so few, play in these HU tourney's. Is it because they lack faith in their short game?L* :D

When you mention the 18yr old kid, are you talking about holdemphil? I also disagree when you say that most people that play those just have money to burn. I've seen many of the same faces play these 5k hu sngs and feel that they can hold their own against the majority of pros. Especially erik123. On another note, does anyone know when the biography of stu ungar is set to be released? I'm really looking forward to reading that book.

weird, I was watching the 5k heads-up matches the other morning. I think I watched them for like 2+ hours because of my inability to sleep well. I started keeping track after awhile and the people I were watching thetakeover/erik123, I believe if i didn't miss anything that thetakeover was up 5 games.

Eric123 is a pro. His name is Eric Sagstrom. He just recently turned 21 and is now playing the circuit a little.Eric could hold his own with most of the pro's out there. The are several pro's who do play those HU matched quite a bit. I know Josh Arieh plays some (razorbax) and Eric Lindgren plays them some too (EDOGN).I don't think it's as easy to win those as you think. You could have a bad run and lose 30k quickly. Most pro's can't afford that.

I play on Stars daily and usually end my playing with watching the HU 5K matches. Therefore, I have seen many of them. I am aware that EDOGN (lindren) plays in them occasionally. From my viewing, he rarely loses them, in fact only once that I can recall. I know that a run of bad cards can lead to a big loss quickly, but overall, I think that these would be a profitable investment for these "pro's". I also watch erik123, and frankly am not impressed. He is of average to above average caliber. A good pro of Negreanu's or Lederer's talent, would clean his account out given enough time. Again, these are only my opinions, but I am baffled why more pro's do not try these games. Just keepin' it :realplayer: L* :D

Erik123 has probebly made more money online than anyone else. And he is very respected by the pros you refer to. Just look at Daniels predictions for the $25K heads up tournament. Now when he has turned 21 we will se him on final tables in WPT and WSOP events. manis

You are right, some of the best players in the world (Daniel, Howard, etc.) would clean erci123's clock. But, Daniel plays much bigger stakes than that. He wins and loses $100,000 a night. Probably not worth his time to play $5k HU matches. There are several articles on the net about eric123. He may have not impressed you very much, but he can certainly play. I think he's only 21. Daniel made a comment in the forum about him being one of the best young players around. I bet most good players on Pokerstars would tell you the same thing.
