Yeah, can't deny. However, I accept the watered down version as "kind of funny", highly dependant on circumstance. If tabled at the right time, the irony of a white guy doing Chapelle can be pretty amusing, in a Post-Modern self conscious way. I remember everyone walking around saying "Excuuuuuuuuse ME!". That got tired quickly, but it was a valuable humor tonic when applied at the right moment.
