Oh, hi.Ok, tourney and mathy guys, how'd I do here taking my shot at the beginning of a 1 table turbo S&G? Second hand (I think), so we're all at 1500 chips, give or take.Preflop: Speedz is BB with A
, 9 :spade:4 calls (20), SB calls (10), Speedz checksFlop: (t1500) 4
, 7
, 9
(pot 120 - 6 players)SB checks, Speedz bets (100), 2 folds, 2 calls, SB foldsTurn: (t2700) 6
(pot 420 - 3 players)Hero bets (240), Some Guy raises (660), Another Dude Raises (1080 - all in), Speedz raises (1140 - all in)So I figure Some Guy is almost definitely going to call. I've got top pair that can't be any good at the moment, and the nut flush draw. Chance to triple up or bust out right away. First of all, I forget how to do poker math, so I have no idea if I did the right thing, especially taking long run EV into play in terms of going deep in these things instead of just staying alive and getting a lot of low places but hardly any top places. Also...I don't know much about this kind of poker. Thoughts? I think I'm good here, but I want to make sure before I make it a habit. Oh, except the 240 bet was kind of stupid...if I'm betting there I guess I should probably be potting it. Would checking be better? At that point I still have top pair, nut flush draw, and haven't yet run into any aggression. So I should probably pot it, yes?Another big issue for me...if this is the start of a large-ish tourney, do I take the same line? Thanks.

Ok, after discussion elsewhere, I guess I didn't have the odds to call against two others when I clearly needed the flush to win. The question, which is really what I was getting at in the first place, becomes about whether or not it's ok at times to go against the odds in tourney play. If I fold I'm down to around 1k chips and doing ok, but in a slight hole. If I call and lose, obviously I'm out. If I call and win, it puts me in great position right off the bat to push people around and a much higher chance of not just getting in the money, but placing 1st or 2nd. So at what point does this affect the simple pot odds that you'd want to follow in a cash game?

Ugh, do not raise pre. In a SnG, there's no reason to raise the 2nd hand with A9s from the BB.Honestly I play it the same up until the turn call. Just fold there after the crazy action and watch someone show a set and someone a straight.
