California, The Bell Weather State

Recommended Posts

So, for the first time , the Dems own california, they have the Gov, and a super majority in both houses. Heres a chance for the libs to shine. See you in four years.

But then again, if california collapses in the next few years, theres always arnold to point back to.

Well, they just voted to raise the high-end income and sales taxes in an attempt to close their deficit so that should be a good experiment as to whether raising the high-end taxes can help with debt.

So, yeah, we'll see.

The scary part is they dont need the people to vote on tax increases now. It can now be done by legislative fiat.

That's......not a new development. Congress has been raising and lowering taxes by fiat since 1789.

It is the job of the legislator to levy taxes, they are shucking their responsibilities.

Good note, but when the proposition to require ID checks to enroll children in schools and or collect welfare a few years back passed by 66%, a single judge ruled it not legal for it to be a ballot because it was the job of the legislature to perform this function.

No the tax sucks, their cowardice sucks and the state is slowing sucking.

Of course it is all offset by the fact that is easily the best state in the union...which sucks for you.

I am real confident that the new tax revenues are going to go reduce the State's debt. :)

Maybe we can make a deal and all the hippy liberal nut cases can all move to New York and California, own those states as sovereign land, and all conservatives will move to the rest of the country.

That way they can pretend they have a clue about addition and subtraction and we can not have our states destroyed by idiots.

Most red states receive more federal funding than they pay in taxes......you know, the "mooching" 47% that won't take responsibility for their lives.

Gov Moonbeam has actually done a decent job in my view - he's pledged not to increase taxes unless the people vote for it (hence prop 30). For now, the state democrats have agreed to this but time will tell. Brown who's 74 has no higher aspirations and can do whatever he wants - from that standpoint, he's beholden to no one since I doubt he'll run for another term. He actually did a decent job as the mayor of Oakland and has become more moderate as he gets older.

He's actually balanced the budget with Prop 30 passing (something Davis and the Governator couldn't do) but also reiterated that the state is still in big time debt and that any surpluses will go against the debt.
