  1. I agree with you on sklanksy, checkymcfold, but like i said in my last post a while ago:"I buy the argument that in higher limit games, people are better, and you should therefore think twice about raising. Still - what confuses me, is that Jennifer Harman is in my opinion _not_ learning an already good player how to play excellent i late position, she is rather giving general guidelines to a new player. Take a look at the first part of her limit-section. It is not very complex, is it? So, i would say that she is giving guidelines that can be used at lower limits like 2/4, 3/6 etc. And again,
  2. I really appreciate all the replies to my question.I buy the argument that in higher limit games, people are better, and you should therefore think twice about raising.Still - what confuses me, is that Jennifer Harman is in my opinion _not_ learning an already good player how to play excellent i late position, she is rather giving general guidelines to a new player.Take a look at the first part of her limit-section. 3. I do know that SS2 is not intended for micro/lowlimits. But considering that she uses a lot of time to go through the basics of the game, i wouldn't say that those advice are given only to the highstakesplayers out there. As she says, she is giving simple guidelines. This was one of them, under "General Hand Selection Advice for Late position". She says nothing about which stakes this advice is meant for. In my opinion, the first part of her limit-section (where this situation is covered) is not written for players who already know a lot about holdem, as it is quite basic.I play lowlimit myse
  4. I understand the argument that i should raise because i probably hold the best hand preflop. I usually do raise it, but i'm a little bit in doubt after reading the limit-section in Super System 2.Jennifer Harman writes the following about this situation on page 224:"Avoid being overly aggressive in multiway pots with hands that play better shorthanded. If six people have already limped in before you, raising with hands like A-Q offsuit or A-J offsuit is counterproductive. With so many players in the pot, the chances of running the hand through to the river without improvement aren't good. You
  5. Let's say you're in a full ring limit holdem game. Six people have already limped in before you. You are in late position with AQo. Any suggestions on what would be the best move here?
  6. I tried the sklansky-system in a freeroll at pokerroom.com and made it to the final table.
  7. I have to agree with you. I'm a bit disappointed myself. I guess trying to build a bankroll on microlimits takes patience. Hope you're not getting tired of your own project, smash!
  8. Allright, thanks. Now i understand what you mean! Hopefully, one day i'll understand how to completely crush the lower limits as well!
  9. Not quite sure what you mean actually... Are you perhaps talking about general skill increasing much more when moving up tables in NL than in limit? If anything, I like to think that I learn more about the game playing limit than I would have learned by playing NL.
  10. Then why would anyone want to play limit? I play limit myself, but my friends all play NL and i always get to hear the same story; "play NL, it's where the money is at!" We all play at lower limits, having just started out about 9 months ago.I'm a big fan of your posts, smasharoo. You should publish them in a book when you're finished.
  11. After reading this page (http://www.improving.org/paulp/poker/tonyd-vs-hellmuth/index.html) i'm not quite sure what to think about that hand.
  12. Just curious... (perhaps a dumb follow-up question) If flipping a coin tells you to bet the flop, let us say you get two callers. On the turn, you flip a coin again, or do you bet all the way once you've started betting on the flop?
  13. A friend of mine claims to have a win rate of $20 and a standard deviation of about 8, this he has achieved playing about 100 hours of 0.25-0.5 NLHE ring game.To me, those are fantastic numbers! Can somebody please tell me if i'm doing the math all wrong here, because my (perhaps poor) result shows that at one random hour of play, he has a probability of over 98% of ending up without losing.Maybe i'm just thinking wrong, or the numbers are too good to be true (...yet - not enough hours played etc).
  14. A friend of mine has been logging his last 100 hours of play at 0.25-0.5 NL online. He says he has a win rate of $20/hr and a standard deviation of 58. He usually plays multiple tables. This is all a bit frustrating, when at the same time, i've logged nearly 100 hours of play at 0.5-1 limit. Win rate: 3, standard deviation 17. I usually play two tables simultaneously. We've both been playing about 8 months (only recently started logging results). I've done quite a bit more reading on poker than him, and know a lot more about the statistical part of the game.Based on this, it would seem as if NL
  15. Read on a scandinavian forum (some guy referred to information from Empires affiliate-dept) that finnish and swedish players are net winners, norwegians are marginal losers. The worst players are from the US. They've got a lot of players who win a lot, but they've got a whole lot more bad players (online).
