Was It Wrong Of Me?

Recommended Posts

Aright, I was playing at Lady Luck Casino in SD, CA. I walked in and went to the 2/3NL table with about 160 (wanted to start low and work up). I was playing fairly aggressivly, grinding up to about 340 in about an hour or so. Made a dumb call, and was labeled after that a fish. Kept getting referred to as 'the dumb white boy' at the table by some guys. Well, after that, I went on a decent tear and busted 2 out of the three guys. I will give you the hands and such for each of these situationsSB: J8HH2 calls, I am BB, raised to 12 (I had only been raising this amount today)called by bothFlop comes Qh 8s JsBet 15, 1 callTurned 8dBet 30, 1 callRiver 10sChecked, he bet 40, pushed him in for an additional 85ish, he called. Now, before I continue, this was one of the three guys saying they were gonna bust me. 2 of the 3 were left because after the guy made a score of like 120 off me, he left after dropping another 100ish to the table. He was a tight player who didn't/couldn't shift gears. I looked and said 'do you have a boat?' He said 'no'I said in a cockish way 'well I do'I won the hand, but he was pissed I disrespected him. I told him it goes both ways, he tried to threaten me, I kinda let out a laugh after that. Afterward, I wondered if I was wrong for doing that. Conversation ended with 'I am not here to be your friend, I am here to take your money.' Ok, felt bad, but they kept talking trash, so now I am just waiting for the opportunity to bust them. Dealt A10sI am BBRaised to 20 to me (This table doesn't believe in the 3x or 4x raises, it's always completely random. Had a guy raise pre-flop, with $3 in the pot, to $55 for kicks.)3 calls, including me. Flop Ad3c10dI bet 25, 1 call (other guy who was calling me 'white boy' and saying a bunch of fun other things)turn AdI bet out 35, 1 callRiver 2dBefore I say this bet, the only reason I bet a bit high was because I had a read he would callbet $100He told me 'FU' and raised to $200, I immedialty said all inHe thought about it, tried to get me to tell him if I had him beat. I kept my mouth shut.He called in with like $150 more and flipped 1010Now, before I continue, let me tell you that after awhile of them talking (2 hours ago this took place), I finally looked and said I was going to bust them if they stayed in this game. So I flipped mine, looked at him and said "I told you I was gonna bust you". He got mad, walked out. I got a few laughs from some of the players there. Just a question. Should I have just taken it and not stooped to their level, or was I slightly ok with talking trash after I busted them? I am kinda confused on the matter. I try to keep professionalism if I win or lose, and I never yell at anyone for making a move I don't agree with or get flustered in front of anyone. This time, though, them judging me because they can't understand the positives of my live game styles kinda made it seem like they were trying to take a shot at my intelligence. Thanks for reading this.

Look. I think you know you acted like a bit of a Douche Bag. If you're going to act like a Douche Bag, then be prepared to be treated like a Douche Bag, especially by other known Douche Bags. And if you want to act like a Douche Bag, then don't get all whiny about hurting/having hurt feelings. Live Poker is a Social Game. How you behave at the table is an indication of who you are - even away from the table. Don't try and pretend that you are just playing the part of a Douche Bag at the table - and away from it you're a really really nice guy. I don't accept the argument that acting like a Douche Bag is just another Poker Strategy. Grow up. Be the better man. Lead by example.

I have doubts that guy said "FU" and then raises. That is straight out of a poker script.
I do it all the time. It is very intimidating. Then I laugh when they fold and show my bluff. Then I pull out my junk and piss on the table. Nobody messes with you after that. I also do it away from poker. I was in line at Wawa recently. I was next and the cashier called me over. I put down my things and he rung them up and bagged them. He told me my total was $13.52. I said "FU" then I threw a $20 on the table. Before he could give me my change I grabbed my bag and smashed it on the floor. Then I knocked over a display and stared at him. I owned him after that. He was never the same.

What would Phil Ivey do?
Phil Ivey would wonder why he is playing 2/3 NL. Then he would wonder why some jives ass turkeys were dissing him. Then he would go Samuel L. Jackson on them. Then he would make a $2 mill prop bet with Tom Dwan just because he can.

The correct answer to this question:Whenever minorities call you "white boy", you immediately refer to them with the most derogatory phrase that exists for their ethnicity. This will shock them, then cause them to jump up and act aggressively, at which point you offer to step outside and if they oblige (they usually won't), beat their fucking ass into a pulp. You're a Marine for christs sake. All this nonsense about 'being the better man' is for pussies. The better man would not stand for that sort of shit.

I like it.However, throwing out racial remarks in retaliation is just not cool in 2011 and you really dont want to be stooping to his level in that respect. I would probably just say something like, "You got a fucking problem man?" in a very intimidating and confrontational way, subsequently followed by an offer to take it outside to any kind of aggressive retaliation. Its just better.IMO.

You know, straight up, I would do that if this were about 5-10 years back. However, if I do somthing like that and win the fight, I can expect to go to court and be asked, "You are trained to kill people. Why did you decide to us excessive force on this guy?" blah blah blah. Thats how I was raised in the Marines. You had a problem with someone? You took your blouse (overshirt in english) and you brought it to the grass. First blood ends the fight or if someone gives. That was it. That doesn't transfer over very well to the civilian chapter of the world. I wanted to respond to the guy who hoped I went bust the rest of the timeI went to the tables durig the weekend. Walked away with about 900 after both days combined. I just wanted to apologise for not following through with your wishes. I will try again this upcoming weekend.
