If this is true it's a lot of money for the casino to lose

So depressing. When online poker is trying to make a comeback in the US; and this happens in NJ... live no less.

I'm so tired of greedy low lifes.

conspiracy theory time.

borgata was supposedly the leading online site in jersey. competitor hires some cons to enter tournament, introduce counterfeit chips, thereby raising suspicions about borgata's ability to self regulate poker security.

Odd that this was in the first tourny. I thought the normal scam was to steal chips from a low buy in tourny and sneak them into the bigger buy in tourney,

Was Men Nguyen one of the 27 left?

By JENNIFER BOGDAN Staff Writer | Posted 56 minutes ago

Workers clearing a clogged sewer pipe at Harrah’s Resort and Casino last weekend discovered something more than a little unusual: $2.7 million in counterfeit Borgata poker chips.

The discovery was the impetus behind the cancelation of a poker tournament at Borgata Casino Hotel & Spa last weekend as tournament personnel found counterfeit poker chips totaling $800,000 among the genuine casino chips.

New Jersey State Police and the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement on Friday night released the details behind the decision to cancel the tournament.

An investigation revealed that Christian Lusardi, 42, of Fayetteville, N.C., was staying in the room in Harrah’s where the pipes were clogged. He was playing in the Winter Poker Open at Borgata. Police said Lusardi introduced the counterfeit chips into the tournament on multiple occasions. Meanwhile, he won $6,814 during the tournament.

Lusardi left the casino last weekend and did not return to his room. As a result, a warrant was issued, and he was charged with rigging a publicly exhibited contest, criminal attempt and theft by deception.

Lusardi was found at an undisclosed motel in Atlantic City Friday by members of the New Jersey State Police Casino Gaming Bureau, Special Investigations Unit, and the New Jersey State Police Fugitive Unit.

He was apprehended and taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility in lieu of $300,000 bail.

Winter Poker Open Event 1 - Update

We are very pleased that the New Jersey State Police Casino Gaming Bureau has apprehended a suspect in connection with the counterfeit chip activity that compromised Event 1 of the Borgata Winter Poker Open. While this is a very positive development, the investigation by the DGE and the State Police is ongoing and Borgata remains under the order the DGE issued last week. Borgata will continue to work with the DGE and the State Police until this matter is concluded and a final order is issued by the DGE concerning the resolution of Event 1.

So basically the final 27 players are compensating everybody else who is getting a refund and Borgata is only out the juice they would have collected on the tournament. If I'm one of the last 27 I'm really really pissed.

New Jersey Gaming Regulators Resolve Counterfeit Chip Debacle at Borgata

Here's a breakdown of how the payouts will disbursed:

  • 2,143 entrants who may have been impacted by the counterfeit chips, but did not finish in the top 450, will receive a total of $560 each, which includes a refund of their $60 entry fee. The eligible entrants for the $560 reimbursement include:
    • All entrants who played Tuesday, Jan. 14 on Day 1a beginning at 10 a.m., with the exception of those entrants who played in the Event Center and busted out prior to 4:30 p.m (those entrants could not have come into contact with Lusardi)
    • All entrants who played Wednesday, Jan. 15 on Day 1b beginning at 10 a.m., with the exception of those entrants who played in the Signature Room and Poker Room on that day and were eliminated (those entrants could not have come into contact with Lusardi)
    • All entrants who played Thursday, Jan. 16 on Day 2
    • Entrants who re-entered any Day 1 after busting out may also be eligible for a refund of $560 per entry, depending on the above criteria.

[*]The $50,893 in prize money that remains to be paid to players already eliminated will be disbursed as scheduled

[*]The 27 players who were still active in the tournament will each be paid $19,323

Who are you pissed at?

Hopefully the scumbag who cheated.

pissed at the cheater and at Borgata for stealing from me to compensate other players when the money should be coming out of Borgata's pocket for their screw up. No way Borgata doesn't get sued by some of the 27

How exactly did Borgata steal from the 27 players?

The amount of money that was left in the prize pool that the 27 players were playing for when the tourney was stopped is over $1 Million more than the money that those 27 players are receiving. Basically the refunds for the other players is coming out of the pockets of those 27 players with the Borgata losing nothing other than the entry fees.

I agree with Bob

The reason to play in a casino is for the security and integrity of the game. He paid a fee to the casino with the expectation that they would keep the game honest. When they failed to do so they can't just wash their hands of the mess.

They owe the busted players a refund due to the fact they did not keep their end of the contract, But the casino should pay, not the players.

Where did he get the counterfiet chips made?

Crimes of cunning usually involve pretty cunning individuals- at least not dumb enough to fall asleep in the getaway car or flush a massive amount of poker chips down the toilet in the same casino you're using them to defraud.

Homeboy is keeping his mouth shut and not rolling on the brains behind the operation.

Hope they knew better than to associate inside the Casino.
