It Has Been A Long Time

Recommended Posts

Since I've been able to legally play online poker in the USA.

I've been on a hiatus from poker. But since the politicians in NJ have decided to allow me to lose $10 in a SNG from home again, I've decided to scrape off the rust from my weak game and try again. Just another fish in the bowl.

It feels good to be back to the forum.

Happy Holidays to all!

Hi Bob,

I've tried Party Poker and WSOP so far.

I had put myself on the waiting list for Party to try it as soon they launched. They sent me an evite to play the weekend before Thanksgiving during the testing for the NJDGE. That was interesting, and somewhat profitable.

There were not a lot of players, I believe that the largest number I saw was about 310. But there were some very nice overlays during the wee hours when the same 4 or 5 of us were playing for a 3 payout in a guaranteed tourney. I made a few dollars, but certainly nothing to retire on. It was fun though.

I started out playing on my PC laptop, then I discovered that they also have downloadable software that runs on a Mac. So I set that up and was really pleased with the way it looked on my 27" iMac. I can easily multi-table 4 games with room to spare. (Brag post)

Pros for Party Poker:

I can play it on my browser and I can download their software for both my Mac and PC.

Reliability of connection is good and improving.

Number of players is growing. Saw 5600+ this evening during the Sunday majors.

They had (I do not know if they still offer them) "achievements" that you could reach that gave you tickets into freerolls that paid tournament dollars. I've done okay with them.

Cons for Party Poker:

The interface is very simplistic. It is designed to appeal to the newcomer that has never played online poker before.

The bugs are still being worked out on connection issues and bonus status as well. (They actually lost a $50 deposit of mine. It took a while, but their support finally did make it right.)

I'm not much of a cash game player, but here is what I've seen. You cannot get a look at any of the tables playing at any buy-in. There is no grid as on Poker Stars listing the tables available, number of players, averages, etc. You have to click on one rectangle that quotes a buy-in and see what you get when you're at the table. There is also only one game dealt, and that is NLH. Current stakes I see range from $0.01/$0.02 to $25/$50.

Again, no games dealt besides NLH.

Pros for WSOP.com

Much better interface. More games spread.

Holdem: NL, PL and limit

Omaha: PL and limit

Omaha HI/LO: PL and Limit

Stud: Limit

Stud HI/LO: Limit

Cons for WSOP

I was gettting disconnected every 20 minutes. They have serious issues with knowing that I am in NJ.

Not many players. No indicator of how many are logged in at any time, but not much action.

I may go back in the future, but it was way too frustrating for the time being.

Oh well, enough for now.

One more complaint I have on both sites is this:

Now way to transfer funds to another player.

I miss STAKES.

I miss Poker Stars.

Friday night: 20:50.

1,757 players on NJ Party Poker.

I left out one significant stat on my previous report. All of the ring games on NJPP are 6 handed. In my opinion... another CON.

Team Winona!
