LADY BYNG MEMORIAL TROPHY The Lady Byng Memorial Trophy is awarded annually "to the player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability," as selected by the Professional Hockey Writers' Association. PAVEL DATSYUK - Center, Detroit Red WingsPosted Image * Named a Lady Byng Trophy finalist for the first time.* Led the Red Wings in scoring with a career-high 87 points (28 goals, 59 assists).* Appeared in 75 games, assessed 22 minutes in penalties. PATRICK MARLEAU - Center, San Jose Sharks Posted Image* Named a Lady Byng Trophy finalist for the first time.* Ranked third on the Sharks in scoring with a career-high 86 points (34 goals, 52 assists).* The Sharks captain played in all 82 games, received 26 minutes in penalties. wow the award no one cares about. take this award out and make a WAYNE GRETZKY award for most assists in a season. 1. no one cares about gentlemanly play2. no one knows who lady byng was3. the award says lady :club: 4. this is hockeymarleau will win because he is canadian, but datstuk should win

I was under the impression that Marleau plays a pretty rough brand of hockey? And yet he's still nominated? If that's the case, then he should win.

my point was that...no one can name the last few lady byng winners without looking them upif sportsmanship was such a big part of hockey, why do we allow fighting?

I could argue that sportsmanship is the ultimate result of fighting.Haven't you ever seen two guys tap heads or congratulate each other after a fight?
