  1. Ugh, and we were doing so well keeping a civil tone of disagreement on the other thread.Don't know where to begin other than to point out that nvrmnd has made great use of the adage "you can't disprove a negative." He has labeled anyone with an opinion divergent from his as a wannabe follower. Ironically enough the only way to prove you are NOT a follower in his eyes is to agree with him and...become....a follower.Post away Daniel.
  2. Agree - so what is the solution then? Do we jump into to every situation that needs attention? WHile I think and hope that we would agree that it would be great if we could I think we also realize that it is not an option so we do what every country does - we take action when we feel like our citizens are in danger. THis has been the exact point I have been trying to make. It is very easy for all of us to sit on the sidelines and snipe at decisions that are made but when you are the one who bears the responsibility of the lives of the millions of citizens you serve the picture look smuch diffe
  3. I see where we got off track - I didn't mean that as proof that Iraq was "furiously pursuing" the production of WMDs but rather that the intelligence services fo the world virtually unanimously thought they were. It was part of a larger point I was trying to make about Bush's motives. If I was responsilble for millions fo lives and terrorists had just upped the ante by hitting us within our own borders I beleive I would have made the exact same decision. Especially when you consider the history many the rest of the world's democratic nations had in either being unwilling or unable to take a st
  4. Completely agree on the tone - its great to see that we can air diverging opinions without resorting to name calling.lol on the last line of your post...
  5. I realize what I am risking saying this but I can't stand Maher and can barely stand Stewart. In all fairness, although I am a proud righty I am not that thrilled with Rush and I can't STAND Mike Savage. The problem I have with Maher and Stewart is that they go for the quick and easy hits which means that most of the time they are completely misreprenting the facts of the issue. Tony Snow from Fox news was on Maher once and he ate his lunch because he was smart enough to do what most conservative pundits don't - he refused to try and match wits with Maher. Instead he calmly pointed out the fact
  6. Daniel - I love you bud but I gotta seriously disagree here (sorry - know you didn't want to start a huge political debate but you did!).The whole "Bush said we invaded Iraq because of Saddam's involvement in 9-11" riff has been expertly played up by the Dems but I challenege anyone to find me a quote where Bush or any administration official has said those words. It is a fine line to be sure but Bush's reasons for the Iraq invasion is that because 9-11 completely changed the rules of the game we were no longer in a position to let someone like Saddam Hussein run free.Did Saddam have a hand in
  7. Ha! Too funny - didn't realize there was another econ prefixed name floating around out there. I'm Republican so I am more about lowering expectations than filling big shoes...changing to my screen name promptly. (assuming I can figure out how to).
  8. Alpha - while I totally appreciate your desire to be balanced in your approach to the issue I couldn't disagree with the quote above more. There is a huge difference between stopping a zygote from forming and aborting a developing life. You may as well have said "Technically if you look at end results then masturbation can be viewed as a device of murder."I realize you were just trying to make a point but, logically, your comparison just doesn't hold water.
  9. The difference between one's belief in when life does or doesn't begin and how much involvement government should have in our daily lives is MASSIVE.That's like saying that Daniel is for higher rakes because he believes taxes should be raised to help pay for better social programs.
  10. All I see Daniel saying is that his faith in God has provided him with greater focus and direction.I dare say that if Daniel were a Buddist instead and spent his time writing about how much clarity of thought and increased concentration medidating has brought him no one would bat an eye.
  11. Argh. Of course it would be education that would induce me to post my first ever forum reply.I love you all dearly but really now! What I find most interesting is the amount of schitzophrenia going on in the attacks on our educational system (which I will in no way shape or form attempt to defend). On the one hand Daniel and others agree that money is not the problem but rather the lack of competition - on the other hand everyone jumps on the "Slam NCLB" bandwagon when the entire conerstone of the legislation is reitroducing not only competition but ACCOUNTABILITY.NCLB simply holds schools to ce
