But... but... where will you get your fair and balanced "news" if you aren't watching the "liberal media"?

the conversation is happening in the academic sphere

Google welfare in a racially diverse society and a lot of papers on the topic come up.

Conversations that go on in academia only are shouting into a cavern.

Unless they influence policy, it's just pointless mental masturbation. Also, academic whitepapers are notoriously agenda driven, so there's always that... but at least they're there to tell all those silly Germans and Swedes that they have nothing to worry about, all those 3rd World Muslims have arrived to pay their pensions!

CNN has become garbage. Fox was always garbage.

Seems we're going to find out just how far this proto-fascist Trump rally shit can go on.

That racist old man sucker elbow to the Wiz Khalifa gentleman's face really raised the bar (especially with the coot saying they "might have to kill him next time"), I knew things were going to flare up pretty quick after that.

Arrests and violence already ramping up.

The US model is fundamentally flawed. Everyone knew the political blow back would come eventually. Well, here it is. Not saying I agree with it but anyone who has been remotely aware of the way things have been shaping up in this country (left, right, Democrat, Republican, the whole shitshow) could have predicted some kind of inevitable push back from the people who aren't willing to stand for the "demographic strategies" and political policies of elegant decay.

It seems that this is all boiling down to a classic "pick two" issue between Capitalism, Democracy and Diversity.

Any two of those things can co-exist, absent the third. All three cannot co-exist at once. Since we don't have the heart to do what would need to be done to eliminate diversity, we get meaningful outsider-candidate traction in the form of one who stands for preserving Democracy and getting rid of toxic capitalism (Sanders), or preserving Capitalism but ditch the loser-appeasement policies of Democracy (Trump).

Saw this cartoon on Reddit the other day.

This picture from Chicago says a lot

Does it? Do we have any context at all or video? If there is a video then maybe it would say a lot.

The picture is from the photo gallery from the Chicago Tribune article I linked to and has the following caption

Donald Trump supporter Birgitt Peterson, center, of Yorkville, argues with protesters March 11, 2016, outside the UIC Pavilion after the canceled rally for the Republican presidential candidate.

Yes, we have context.

We have the 30% or something of Trump supporters who say that the slaves shouldn't have been freed. We have the white supremacists organizations who have come out in support for Trump. We have the absolute tidal wave of - and this is only the vocal and unabashed ones we're talking about - explicitly racist support all over social media for Trump.

And all of that is just the vocal segment. That isn't even accounting for the, almost certainly, larger group of those who silently, or quietly, or only in certain company, or anonymously are racists - anywhere from a mild to excessive degree.

Yeah, there's a lot of context.

So, yeah, maybe that is just a perfectly timed picture of a an old white woman doing a new type of yoga pose she is trying out that, in her old age, she didn't realized looked like a Nazi salute. Something like that may be happening there. That is actually possible, if unlikely.

But who gives a fuck? Even if she isn't tossing up a Nazi salute - the picture says plenty, you oblivious, "skeptical when skeptical is stupid or irrelevant" imbecile.

Agreed.

I wonder what the percentage of racist people nationwide would be compared to just Trump supporters.

re direct - how do we know that isn't just the way she asks for a high five? she is white, and old, so she clearly cannot be hip or cool. your honor, we just can't be sure here. most probably she is looking for a high five from jean jacket after she said his beard was a good looking dick tickler.

you shouldn't mess with the Secret Service when they are protecting somebody, even Trump

Say what you want about the Secret Service, but no one can deny that they know how to party.

So here's my story about this picture, and I promise you it's the god honest truth :

my friend Sean Kavanagh and I are walking out of the UIC Pavilion filled with some of the most palpable joy I've ever experienced. We did it. We fought for the truth and for a moment, a brief day, WON.

As we are leaving Trump protestors form small sections, small channels where Trump supporters can pass through to exit (a kindness which isn't quite afforded in the inverse when ya know, people get sucker punched being forced out of Trump rallies).

As people are walking out we're saying things like "Bye racists", "You lost. Please just go home now." bc many are leaving with shoves and shoulder checks, begrudgingly, but most with pent up fury.

The woman pictured with me and what looks to be her husband we're stragglers in the pack, and started responding to people's jeers. Some guy ripped a sign out of the man's hands and another man leapt out of nowhere, encouraging everyone around to respect them and let them leave (again, sometimes America is amazing).

This woman is a human being and although I don't share her views, I start yelling "I will respect my elders. Please. Leave." and a few other great folks and I start to clear the path. I walk right up to her and say "Ma'am we have listened to you. We understand this is all a little wild but we have cleared a path for you to leave *my right hand was constantly swinging in motion, showing her the path out we made for her, as shown in the photo*"

She goes, and I quote "Go? Back in my day, you know what we did-"Bam. Hail's Hitler.

I go "Ma'am you are endagering your life doing this. LEAVE. TAKE YOUR HUSBAND AND LEAVE." (I mean, anyone who knows me knows I get loud, so you know, sorry about that.)

And she won't. She won't budge. A young woman comes up to me and says "She wants this. Leave her be." looks to her and goes "God bless you. I hope you make it home safe." and I walk away from her astounded.

I have never experienced anything like tonight. To see America rise up for a man who hates so much of it, then for him to get checked so wonderfully by a city I love so much, and then for his followers to scream and cackle to the bitter end.

So many fights were stopped. So many people protected others instead of encouraging mayhem. Don't believe the hype : protestors only stoked a fire in these people that was born long before they had Trump to personify it.

Hate is real my friends. Vicious, hurt you if you aren't watching, worse if they can get away with it indignance was in so many eyes there.

I say that bc know this : hope is real too. Hope that when we stand up against hate from time to time, and collectively, we can defeat it. Or at least silence that beast, for one damn night.

We are at a point in America where those people, Trump supporters, make me sad. But the ones who make me angry? The incredibly intelligent, brightest minds I know, who sit on their hands and do nothing, don't vote, don't volunteer, and pretend as though their knowledge abdicates them from action.

The world is broken, I learned that best from Christianity. But I don't believe even one thing on this Earth is beyond repair, and I learned that from Christianity too.

You don't have to share my belief in Christianity, but I am asking you to stand up against hate. Or this woman's slanted arm never bears a greater weight than her own ignorance. She may never get the shot to understand love, living in the world where that symbol actually rules again.

Don't let that happen. Do something. Please, for the sake of everyone, do something.

This kind of shit only gains Trump more votes.

"MA'AM, WE HAVE TAKEN OVER YOUR TRUMP RALLY SO YOU GET OUT OF HERE NOW BECAUSE I AM A PROTESTER AND I SAID SO!!!"

For every 1 college kid that appeals to, there are 5 suburban "never miss an election day" voters who now view a vote for Trump as a vote AGAINST people like that; Nixon's silent majority. They determine elections.

My guess is that some kind of violence probably comes next. Not dust-ups or sucker punches. Real violence.

The protesters now feel empowered, but they are naive about the nature of what they're up against. The people who now attend Trump rallies going forward will be the kind of hardened types who are totally down for a scrap with a bunch of loser protesters. Most will probably come armed in one way or the other.

I'm voting for Sanders (but still actively trolling my fellow Sanders voters). If Trump wins, at least there will be massive laughs. Just to reiterate, though: continued tantruming from the Occupy Wall Street/Black Lives Matters/Soros Funded Professional Protester types against Trump only benefits Trump, insofar as it absolutely knocks Cruz fence-sitters into his camp

Spade needs to reflect on why he thought Connor McGregor was going to beat Nate Diaz @ 170 when his entire style rested on him being the much larger man.

I would also be interested in hearing Spade's thoughts on whether McGregor beats Edgar at 145, because I'm not so sure about that, either. If Edgar prices above +250, I'm probably in.

Pffft

Conor eats him up standing, imo. I don't think Diaz has the power to stave off Conor, and is will have trouble with the speed and punching power of Conor.

Outside chance of bjj sub from Diaz.

He's a tough dude though and nobody can doubt he has good stand-up game, so it's possible it plays out differently. I just think it's unlikely.

Nate's height and reach are why I give that small chance of it playing out differently. But I'm looking at Conor being taller than RDA, Benson Henderson, Grey Maynard, and has a 3-4 inch reach advantage over them, Josh Thompson is probably less than an inch taller, and Conor has a 3 inch reach advantage on him too.

I think Nate is too slow to manage Conor at a distance.

I'd love to be wrong and see a stand up fight that Nate dominates and finishes. Not because I dislike Conor, but because I like being wrong and surprised. Exciting shit.

And I'm not disagreeing with you really anyway - we haven't seen the mick against a taller, longer opponent in the UFC. Could definitely be a "well, we've revealed that" moment. I just have a hard time seeing it in this fight because of the speed difference.

I stand by everything I said. The first round showed the speed difference and Nate's inability to keep Conor at distance. Nate was getting lit up. Second round revealed that Conor is no RDA in ability to keep a pace, and no Diaz in ability to take a punch.

Heh.

I agree, that's a tougher fight than he's had aside from Diaz, and I'd take him at +250. I think Mcgregor has the edge because of that size, but Frankie grinding him out is a distinct possibility.

And I think RDA beats Conor handily if Conor doesn't hurt him real early.

If we've learned anything in this thread, it's that Spade is either intellectually intimidated by Scram, or can be easily distracted by UFC talk.

Frankie is not going to stand and box with him.

We've seen Frankie fight larger men when he was at lightweight.

Benson Henderson is also 5'9 with a 70" reach and he basically beat him at UFC 150. Maynard is about that size, so is BJ Penn.

The first time McGregor leaves the land of the dwarves he has no idea what to do. Edgar has been fighting at the UFC level against men of that size for going on 9 years, against top top competition.

McGregor is trash on the floor. There's a reason they've been keeping Edgar away from him. Too much jaw and wrestling. Seriously, I might take him at whatever.

How do you figure this?

I am (100% seriously) voting for Bernie Sanders. That is not a troll. I'm guessing we agree on that.

We're also among the tiny handful of participants in what is one of the few remaining semi-active threads on this forum (the MMA thread)
