Its quite easy. Depending if there is a bet before you or not. If there isn't a bet before you, the pot is just whatever is in it. Say there is 200 in preflop, you can bet a max of 200. If there is a bet before you, you can call and raise that size. Example, if the pot is 200, and someone before you bets 100, you would take the 200, and add the 100 bet before you. Then when action is to you, you'd 'call' the 100, bringing the pot to 400, and you could raise up to 400.

Exactly what he said ^^^^^BUT ... I would check with the casino you are playing at as not all casinos follow the same rules. In the example above at some casinos you may only be able to bet the pot of 300.

That looks right...Ex. blinds total 450 (150/300)1 limper @ 150 (total pot = 600)You can call the 150, making the pot 750.Now you can bet the pot, 750. Make sense ?

doudave,Just say "pot-it" and ask the dealer how much it is :)Seriously though, it's what others have said, just make sure when you are doing it, you don't string bet.Another example,25/50 NL, 3 handed you're on the buttonThere is $75 in the pot. You can make it $175 total ($50 call makes $125 in the pot, so you can raise $125 in addition to the $50 you already 'put in' for a total of $175)Say the BB calls ($375 pot) and you go to the flop. You (or he) has the option to bet $375, say he bets $250, you can now make it ($375+$250[his bet]+$250[your 'call']+$875[total of previous 3 numbers]) = $1750 to go.Same game, only you are SB and button folds. You can now only make it $150 to go. ($25 more to call BB puts $100 in the pot, so you can raise $100 on top of the $25SB + $25 'call')Hopefully I didn't confuse you, and hopefully I did my math right in my head. Good luck.

its simple. whatever the blinds + money in the pot is, plus a minimum raise from you is the pot.so, 10/20pl. 30$ in blinds, one limper, your min raise, you can make it 90$ to go10+20+20+40 = 90

It isn't hard at all. Say the pot is at $200. Someone bets $50 and the action is to you. Their is now $250 in the pot. Now you want to raise. First you have to call the $50, making the pot $300. Got it?Since their is $300 in the pot, you can now bet up to $300 more.

No.375+250(his bet)+250(your call) = 875. So you can raise 875 + 250 to call = 1125 to go

one little trick to remember, if you are the first to enter the pot pre-flop, and want to pot-raise it, it is always 3.5 times the BB. Just a little helper for ya.Edit: This is, of course, assuming you're playing blinds that have the SB exactly half of the BB, not 2/5 or something.

Why does every example have one limper and all the action is pre-flop, and wrong. On flop 100 in pot, person bets pot = 100person raises pot = 100+100+call of 100 and additional raise of 100 + pot = 800Next person folds

saw a bunch of different examples...but here is how pokerstars let's you do it and I believe it's the best way, because anyone acting behind you should have almost or exactly 2:1 on their money. It's whatever bet is to you, times three, plus anything else in the pot.SB=100BB=200folds to you preflop, you can raise it to 200x3+100 or 700.On the flop, let's say there's 100 in the pot, and the SB bets out 100. It folds to you, you can raise it to 100x3+100 or 400.BET BEFORE YOU*3+THE POT
