I don't think they're "openly cheating" but this isn't the first time in the last week or two a guy has been thrown out without a warning. I'm not saying you need to give a warning every time, but the whole point of the 'warning' system was to prevent situations where teams kept hitting each other. The ability to do that SHOULD mean umps give more leeway to unclear situations like above, or recently to the White Sox. That follows logically, no? Before, you wanted to nip it in the bud, so you maybe had a quicker trigger. Now, since you can just issue warnings if you feel justified and the ejections are automatic, you should be less inclined to throw someone out before warnings are even issued.Like was said above, if the next guy gets clocked on the first pitch or something and intent is clear, you can go ahead and eject without a warning. But in several recent situations, the situation was borderline at best, and the game was still in hand. I think Alvarez may well have been going hard inside on purpose there. But there's no rule against that, I'm pretty sure. Doubtful he was actually trying to hit him in a 1-run game. So if you think he was trying to send a message, issue warnings and that's that. Don't change the game.

My random baseball observation:Why does no outfielder know how to catch a fly ball and and throw home without it taking forever? Seriously. Get 4 stops behind where the ball will fall, be moving in when you catch it, have your throwing hand directly next to your glove for the quick exchange. Unless you're Rick Ankiel or Jesse Barfield, you can spare the extra second for the exchange. Annoys me. I'm probably turning into a fundamentals codger but I don't think so.

I did not even know this was a thing. Never heard of something like this. Is he the first to ever do this?

I don't think anyone has thrown it this hard before. It's faster than Wakefield's fastball. He gives up some movement on it, but he gets better control. And he also throws it slow, so you don't just have to deal with random movement, you have to be ready for anything from mid-60's to low 80's.

Just happend to flip on the home run derby right as Mccutchen was up. God it is an awful broadcast. Chris Berman's schtick is just so old. Also they spoke with Josh Hamilton the whole time. Barely even gave Cutch his due. Berman mentioned that he leads the majors in batting average and plays for the first place pirates. "Isn't that good to hear," he said. I understand that the viewing audience probably knows less about him than any other participant but it was pretty bad imo to let him be completely background entertainment. Nomar awkwardely steered the conversation back to what Cutch was doing (4:08). Screw ESPN. Don't even get me started on how they treat hockey.

The HR derby is pretty boring - which is why I didn't watch it - but that's pretty bad. I've never been a big fan of Chris Berman. He has a good tv voice, and that's about it.

I probably hate Chris Berman more than Skip Bayless.If I thought Skip was a real person, it might go the other way.Still, I hate Chris Berman a good deal.
