Hi, I don't expect to see a whole lot of the opposing view on a poker forum, where people do think poker is evil, so I'm going to play a bit of devil's advocate, irony unintended. I am a Christian, fully committed to Christ and to follow God's Word in the Bible. I also enjoy playing poker, though I do admit I'm not really good at it yet. In regard to poker in the Bible, there isn't a prohibition of it mentioned, just like there is no prohibition of drinking as some would make you believe. What there is, however, is the encouragement to use wisdom in everything you do. I'm going through Proverbs right now because I thought I read something last week that pertained to this idea of wisdom and restraint and how it can be applied to poker. I encourage as many of you that would be interested to build your case, either against or not against poker, by what the Bible says.

Check this out: Sanctioned gaming by the apostles to replace Judas....Acts of the Apostles, Chapter 1, Verses 24-26And praying, they said: Thou, Lord, who knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen, To take the place of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas hath by transgression fallen, that he might go to his own place. And they gave them lots, and the lot fell upon Matthias, and he was numbered with the eleven apostles. God Bless,Burgerman

King David once said that he could not accept the items he was going to sacrifice to the Lord as gifts, he would pay for them, since unearned things cannot really represent offerings to the Lord. That's why I don't tithe off my poker winnings, they didn't really cost me anything so I can't make them an offering.Or I wouldn't tithe if I had poker winnings I meant.

What, people who don't play poker are perfect? There's a lot of sinners in the church. Possibly all of them, but I can't say for sure. :D:club::D:D

But what did you hear from Matthias after that? His name isn't mentioned again. However, Paul seems to become the central figure in "Acts of the Apostles."I take two things from that: one, that God had another person in mind to take Judas' place. And two, that the lots weren't necessarily bad in this event, but that it turned the twelfth man into merely a footnote.

You're about Paul and Matthias didn't get much ink. I prefer to think that the apostles gambled like everyone else in their day. This is valuable since many of my good friends like to say that Bible says you shouldn't gamble. Actually there is gambling in the Old and new Testaments -- mostly dice. Therefore, I took up craps!Burgerman

Not sure if this is true just found it from a site. The Book of the Prophet Isaiah is full of gambling references. It was here where the first mention of gambling for the Jesus’ clothes was written. Isaiah also mentions how stone dice were cast to determine the allotment of land to be passed through the generations in a family. In other Biblical references, dice and other game pieces were used as a method for determining God’s will. The Book of Exodus suggests that God told Moses that his brother Aaron was to carry stones with the symbols of the twelve tribes of Israel, which were to be used whenever Aaron was in a holy place. The irony is that so many religions today consider gambling as an evil when in reality, gambling sits at the very center of most religious beliefs.http://www.birthofgaming.com/

I couldn't find much on the Subject. The only thing I came up with is in verse two of The Old Testament, when Paul exclaims "Don't donk off your poker winnings playing blackjack". This leads me to believe they were wise back then.

To gamble is more or less to stake somthing that isnt yours or that you dont have.To lose a gamble is to be unable to pay for somthing. Eg playing with money that you can't actually pay, betting your life, things like that.

Book of Kings, Chapter 17Verses 48-49.And when the Philistine arose and was coming, and drew nigh to meet David, David made haste, and ran to the fight to meet the Philistine. And he put his hand into his scrip, and took a stone, and cast it with the sling, and fetching it about struck the Philistine in the forehead: and the stone was fixed in his forehead, and he fell on his face upon the earth.Translation: Sometimes you gotta throw rocks to get things done. Poker Translation: Don't be afraid to go all in with the short stack!God bless,Burgerman

It's as simple as "everything in moderation".The thing I'm struggling with is how not to play poker every day, every hour.
i think the more appropriate thread here at this point would be "christianity and the dangers of obsessive non-stop amateur-level golf"

not reallygam‧ble  1. to play at any game of chance for money or other stakes.2. to stake or risk money, or anything of value, on the outcome of something involving chance: to gamble on a toss of the dice.

Jesus is coming, hide your bong.
made me laugh :club: but if jesus was coming would hide your bong and risk insulting him, or offer him a hit? I've heard many times that weed comes up in the bible when Jesus cures the lepers of pain and suffering ( he couldn't possibly be constantly doing miracles from God) he was just passing the reefer.Man made booze, god made weed, who do you trust.

Man made booze, god made weed, who do you trust.
according to the bible god is also omnipotent which means god made the means to make booze and knew exactly what would happen. god being omnipotent also eliminates the possibilty of free will and therefore places no value on this brief section of time we call our lives and our consciousness.

THE BEST EVER ADVICE Just as there are physical laws that govern the physical universe, Solomon reveals "laws of living" that invisibly govern all aspects of life.It was suggested to Steven K. Scott, before he became Author, Multi-Millionaire Super Achiever, that this advice would lead to Steven becoming a MUCH SMARTER person than any of his bosses, and, if followed daily, would lead, as Steven describes, to his becoming a multi-millionaire. Two years, simple advice, much smarter person, multi-millionaire. According to Steven, it works. SoCô¿ôL Bob has begun following this advice.[*]There are 31 Chapters in The Book Of Proverbs in The Holy BibleAt the start of each day, Read A Chapter A Day On those months with less than 31 days catch up at the end of the month2 years, much smarter person, multi-millionaire.Reading_bible.gif0385516665.01._SCMZZZZZZZ_SL125_V1118157347_.jpg0471467634.01._SCMZZZZZZZ_SL125_V1114217210_.jpgProverbs 1http://www.socool.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=248I appreciate your committment.Your invited to comment on The Sneak Previewhttp://www.winamillionplayingpoker.com/sne...kvideoblog.htmlbig3.gifAs.gifAh.gifbig3.gif
