In a single table tournament with an unlimited rebuy period and 1 optional add-on that is only available to those who have NOT rebought, should the NUMBER of places paid be determined by:- the # of original entries, or- the total size of the prize pool?

# of entries and please explain your thinking behind no add-on for the rebuyers and an unlimited time period? It doesn't fit.

I didn't make up the structure, and it isn't really up for debate. We have always paid 70/30 to first and second, and some people are trying to get it so that 3rd place is paid if the total prize pool exceeds a dollar amount, saying that it might encourage more people to rebuy if they knew they would get a little something for 3rd.Opponents are arguing that they don't want prize money taken from the winner to pay 3rd, and that if there are only 7 or 8 people, than paying 3 of them is ridiculous no matter how much $$$ is in the prize pool.edit @ KHSPoker21: sorry i was unclear, during the first 3 levels there are unlimited rebuys. after the third level, 1 optional rebuy is offered to those who havent rebought. I can't explain the thinking behind it since it isn't my rule/structure, but that element isn't up for debate anyway.

if there's only 7 or 8 people, don't pay more than 2. I still think the idea that you can't add-on if you rebought is retarded. Worst idea for a homegame ever. Tell your friends that.

Thanks for weighing in. I never actually questioned the add-on thing but I guess it is pretty arbitrary/nonsensical.

I say less than 8 players, pay two. 8-11 players, pay three, 12+ pay four, etc.The no add-on for rebought players idea sucks. When I ran a home game with a rebuy sng format it was like this, and if I may say it's the most badass structure ever for good players.10k starting chips, unlimited rebuys for 10k anytime during the first three levels when the player goes broke. One add-on for any amount up to 10k for a proportionate amount of $$$. If the buy-in is $20, a $20 add-on gets you 10k, a $10 add-on gets you 5k, a $2 add-on gets you 1k, etc. Any amount they want up to 10k.35 minute levels25/2525/5050/10075/150100/200125/250150/300200/400250/500300/600400/800 w/100500/1000 w/100600/1200 w/100800/1600 w/200That was a badass sng. Usually that structure equated to about one bust-out per hour. A 9-man tourney would have 8 eliminations and last maybe 7-8 hours. If you eliminate the rebuys, a 9-man would take more like 6 hours.Awesome on a saturday or sunday to play all day with deeeepstacks.

This is pretty similar to our structure. We skip a few of those levels, but there are no antes. 30 min levels as opposed to 35. Starting stack is 8k, add-on is 5k. We aim for more like 4 hours total.
