#3766294 I Called In Sick Today

Big dog don't need to bark to let the other dogs know he owns the porch.

So, basically what happened was we had a meeting with the cfo, our boss, and two product managers (retail and business, which is important to note that I handle the retail side and the other analyst deals with the business side of things).

The meeting was more less just me showing off some models I built for the two product managers, not even realizing that I probably should have told the business lady to deal with the other analyst, and then another model I built to deal with interest rate changes. After that was done the other analsyt, our boss, and the cfo stayed and had a meeting about something that i wasn't party to so i left.

Afterwards I'm sitting at my cube and he walks by my desk, unnecessarily, to say good job (because he thinks hes my psuedo manager or something?) and so i grunt and go back to working and then i realize he's still standing there so I turn around and he shows me this sheet of some formula from our reporting software that he broke into 3 parts and told me how hard it was because of the parenthesses. And I'm just like, ha, i bet, and then he leaves.

Later, I stop by my bosses office to ask for some days off and he jokingly says something along the lines of "don't make your first version of these things so good because now everybody wants to give you more projects" and then says something about how the CFO was really impressed with those models. So, that makes me think they talked about them after I was gone which is why the other analyst was feeling really threatened.

The COO just sent out an email announcing shorter weekly one on ones for everyone, thanking me for bringing the idea to the table. I am guessing this spreads to other areas of the firm shortly. Manager tools, man.

Sounds like they're already looking for excuses as to why they lose tonight.

So I’m mostly through the “one on one” manager tools podcasts. I am doing monthly meetings with my boss currently. I broached the idea of going weekly and shorter duration today, and we are giving it a shot. I don’t have any direct reports, so this is pretty much the only way for me to try it out.

My boss seemed amused more than anything. Told me I need a hobby, if this is my after hours listening (not in a shitty way).

I know a woman who sleeps once every 2 or 3 (or more) days, who's not on drugs or anything. She's brilliant, and is a neurology grad student, and they actually studied her brain because her sleeping pattern was so unusual. After a great deal of study, it turns out that she sleeps like a dolphin or something. Parts of her brain will take micro naps, separate from the rest of her brain. Which is consistent with her symptoms, because sometimes she'll be talking to someone, and everything will go black and white for about 15 minutes. They theorize it's because the part of her brain that registers colors is taking one of those micronaps. It's fascinating. I'm incredibly jealous, I wish my brain worked like that

My opinion on Homeland season 1 is so skewed by their decision not to kill Brody and foist those shit bag seasons 2 and 3 on us, that it's hard for me to view season 1 objectively. I'm becoming more and more convinced that anthology series are the way to go, because it's so hard to have a cohesive artistic vision that lasts for more than one season. As much as I love the Sopranos, I really think it lost it's artistic vision once Livia died. it's a testament to how good the writing was, and how amazing the characters were, that I continued to love it, even as it tread water plot wise, year after year. I give Breaking Bad so much credit for having a huge, grand plot line over several years that they were able to pull off shockingly well.

4 seasons are the most overrated shit ever, I don't understand why people say they love them so much. Two of the seasons in the midwest ****ing suck, and half of spring is either cold or raining, and fall, with it's ever shortening, increasingly cold days, is a constant reminder that winter is coming.
