anselm 0
I'm only half-kidding. I was thinking about some of the very top players today and realized that my opinion of them is almost always split. I'm constantly finding myself telling others "he's really, really good but a pretty (insert negative here) person." Greedy, arrogant, annoying, dirty, whatever. I'm not just trying to flatter when I say this is one of the reasons I like DN so much. I respect both him and his game. For all the so-called respectability this game has gotten recently (and the supposed 'changing face of poker') I still find that most of the best are pretty obnoxious people at heart. JMHO. Golden 2
that's cool.. i wish i knew every professional poker player personally so i too could pass judgement on their characterYou don't know every pro player personally? Where have you been?
FullMontyM1 0
I don't think anyone, absent friends/family of a particular professional poker player, are qualified to make judgements on their qualities as a person.Even friends and family probably shouldn't be in the business of judging other people. When it comes to things that reflect negatively on the players we see on TV, well, I take all that with a grain of salt. We've all seen Arieh being a pos, but he's got a house in the suburbs and a family to support, so he's not being anymore of a jerk than the salesguy who loses a big sale and cusses out the competition.Matusow goes nutzoid and has myriad other personal problems, but so do regular people. There are plenty of lawyers/doctors/etc. that have done drugs, commited jail-worthy criminal acts, etc. We just don't hear about it on TV. Plus, I can't fault a guy who is so emotionally involved with his poker play. Playing poker is his life, after-all.Same goes for Hellmuth on the emotional involvement/outbursts thing. And the guys that are "degenerate gamblers"... well...I'm a degenerate gambler, so I've got no beef with them.Other than that, I don't know what else to say...Except that Sean Sheikhan sucks as a human.Monty

Your witty sarcasm just cuts to the bone. How about you read between the lines instead of making grand presumptions that make you just look like an ***. I never claimed to know a professional poker player personally, let alone all of them. If you want me to re-edit my OP to add a disclaimer I can. Maybe I should re-stress that I'm half kidding? Or you could just lighten the **** up.How's this, buddy: why is it that many pro players appear to me to often act like total asses in public? Ie, do you ever watch Erick Lindgren and think "Damn that guy is probably sweet to hang out with?" Or read Bernard Lee's incredible WSOP story. Why aren't there more guys like them? Surely I'm not the only one who watches WSOP/WPT/HSP and thinks half the people have horrible people skills.
The Nuts 0
Except that Sean Sheikhan sucks as a human.Agree. Matusow was justified in his commenting on Sheik's pouting and outbursts. That and slowrolling on national TV...******.

Yeah, his post count isn't as high as yours, but he's not a newb. OP probably doesn't make as many weak attempts at flaming as you. So next time you feel the urge to slap the "newbie" label on someone compare member numbers, try again and leave the "newbie" for appropriate posters....
