  1. The 20/40 at Foxwoods is the equivalent of 3/6 online - easy money if you can play and stay away from the good players.Stud is a very profitable game, but barely spread for high limits anymore -- go to foxwoods and you can find a great game anytime tho.If all you have ever played is hold'em -- you are guaranteed to lose at stud -- very different starting hand requirements, plays very differently - more like omaha than hold'em. And you are pushing smaller edges in stud than in hold'em generally. Fairly simplistic to beat the 20/40 @ foxwoods howeverStud is a great game, but hold'em (especiall
  2. Theoretically, the more hands you play, the lower the variance should be in the long-term -- that's mathimatically correct. In real life, I would recommend from experience that you need a bigger BR to 8-table .50/1 for example than 3-4-table 1/2. You should also consider the fact that ur 4 BB/100 should also decrease slightly as you move from 4-tables to 8. 8-Tabling sucks as well, I have the capabilities and have done so considerably at the 5/10 level before, but refuse to as my BB/100 goes down a lot when 8-tabling. It's more like a playing the cards thing as well - just raising premium ha
  3. The play on BoDog is good (meaning atrocious).I just recently opened up an account their myself to check out their software and games -- all of which are excellent places to make some consistent money. The NL tables are full of morons and the SNG/MTT structure's are good enough to take advantage of the weak fields. The bonus is great in that it is has no ceiling - you could deposit $1M and get a 20% bonus on it presumably as many times as you would like -- cleary the bonus is relatively painless as well. The software is allright, some glitches here and there, but better than most. Most important
  4. Would love to create a little discussion on this classic NL tourny hand sequence. John Murphy and Matt Dean - AKo v. JJMurphy finished either 12th or 13th - Both players have right around 1.5 Million in chips - with Dean having Murphy covered, but not by much.Murphy makes the table-standard 3x BB raise to around $125,000 UTG. Dean makes it 500k to go. Comes back to Murphy, he goes all-in for right around 1.5 mill in chips.Which play is bad???IMHO, Murphy plays this perfectly. Personally I don't like the re-raise with JJ from MP, but it works here to thin out the field and find out what you
  5. 40% cashes in MTT is really good play. What you need to focus on is ROI (return on investment). This can be measured over the course of MTTs played - money won over the course of x amount of buy-ins / number of total buy-ins. Any positive ROI is profitable poker. Anything above 10% is 'good'.One thing to remember concerning MTT play is that it is extremely high variance - you could easily play 50 MTTs and not make one final table and still be a 'good' player. You also have to focus on the top three spots - don't concern yourself with making the money but with wins.Good luck, it's were the 'de
  6. What online site has the best coverage and up-to-date WSOP coverage? CardPlayer seems hard to follow IMHO and pokerwire kinda sucks as well. What sites are easy to navigate?Much appreciated....
  7. Here's the link from PokerPages.comhttp://www.pokerpages.com/tournament/schedule1760.htmIt looks like the far majority of the tourny's are $200+30 buy-ins plus one optional $200 re-buy. A few larger buy-in tourny's spread throughout the schedule. Two tournaments a day at 12:00 noon and 7:00 PM.No idea about the actual blind structure and/or starting chips - but usually the structure in tournaments like these are bad. But who knows. Looks like a great way to break into poker-mode after a long plane ride tho. Most likely soft 'touristy' competition making it worth while with at least 200 pl
  8. Leaving this WED 5/1 for the WSOP. Playing in a few of the events and really can't wait seeing it's my first WSOP (just turned 21). I'm just hoping that I run well in the side games to keep my downswings from, potentially, not cashing in any events. It's my second trip to Vegas and most likely playing primarily at the Wynn and maybe a couple trips to the Bellagio in between the events scheduled at the Rio.By the way, the Wynn really is the best room in Vegas. Staff is excellent, cocktail waitresses so ****in hot, and the action is good enough to keep me around. Hopefully a good 10/20 NL t
  9. - How exactly is it 'easy' to tell when one pro is better than another? WSOP finishes? Other large-scale tourny finishes? Side-game performances? Other pro's opinions? Their own opinion? I believe that is in fact very difficult to determine who is better at one particular game. After all, they are many varying strategies to all forms of poker, many of which are profitable. None of which is easy to calculate or determine which is more profitable aside from actual heads-up battles between these two varying 'styles'. Playing say 50 of these heads-up matches would determine the better pl
  10. Howard is a proven high-limit cash game player. Proof: Ask him or any other 4k/8k and up player, or read the new book coming out about the Big Game. The Professor, The Banker, and The Suicide King. The first 28 pages are free to read on Amazon, and personally it seems like a very interesting read. "The Professor" is obvi Howard himself. Why doesn't Howard play the high limit side games anymore?I'm sure their could be multiple reasons, but the most likely one is that he does not want to play with backers anymore. It is my opinion/understanding that when he did play 2k/4k, 4k/8k, and up, he
  11. I have just received some 'reliable' information regarding a team of colluders who frequent primarily PartyPoker, among other sites, and B&M single table tournaments. Three gentlemen in their mid 30-40s who have in the last 18 months made over *100k a piece*.I wish I had more details in terms of their particular limits, strategy, names, etc. - I'm working on it. I am assumming, since their profit is relatively high, that the three of them play $100 and up SNGs - could even be as high as $500 and $1,000. In terms of 'reliable' information, it is actually quite interesting. I received th
  12. Vegas Baby, Vegas!!!Hey Jayson - apparently with a press pass you can play in the tourny that is run the day before the Big One. Not sure if it is a freeroll or something small like $500 buy-in, but I know for a fact that a day or two before the Big One, they do run a press one-day tourny so all that are writing about the tourny can get a feel for the real thing. I think first place is an entrance into the Big One, or $10,000. Check it out.I'll be leaving Boston in a couple days (May 16th) and heading out to Vegas to 'work' for a couple months - 10/20 NL mostly. Got my seat locked-up in th
  13. How much have you made since you started? just over $25,000What's the most you made in one night? probably $3,200, or in that range playing 5/5 NL - had a 125 BB night over 16 hours of play in 10/20 limit HE, which was probably more skillful. Most you lost? $800 in one day. Never lost more than $1k in a week. How long have you been playing cash games? About 2 years, primarily liveDo you consider yourself to be good? I am always trying to become a better player. In terms of where I was merely 3 months ago, I believe I am a much better player, yet it is hard to say that you are a 'good' pl
  14. A friend of mine made over 5k on Paradise Poker playing exclusively HU NL Hold'em.Granted, he was playing a higher limit than the original poster would be - but he has never played any higher than a $500+50 and started off with the $20+2. He plays extremely aggressively - vital to HU play - and basically calls raises with any two cards, which can be a good strategy when HU, if you have the skills to play post-flop.Post-flop play is extremely important - this knowledge/skill coupled with the right type of aggression is key to winning HU matches.I'd say give it a try. Even though luck/the card
  15. In PP's live journal, somewhere in the comments section, is a little bit of insight into the level of the thinking required to play at that high of a level. It describes his play in the middle levels of WPT event playing with AQs UTG. Unreal at the level of thinking - def check out his post.It altered the way I play the game of NL, even if just a little bit. He really is a great player, and his blog is great.http://frankiepoker.blogspot.com/
