Anybody Heard Any News About Rounders 2 ?

Recommended Posts

10 months ago there was big talk about how Rounders 2 was going to get made. But then it just seemed like the story fell off a cliff. I’ve heard nothing about the project since then. Anybody heard any news?

submit a treatment already.

To who, the major studios won't accept a submission unless it comes through an agent. And apparently my 3 screenwriting honors for "Vegas Knights" aren't enough to get an agent nowadays. That's why it's probably going to take a poker enthusiast with clout like a Leo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Matt Damon, or Sam Simon to get the project going. There must be somebody out there with clout who wants to see a good poker themed movie get made. Hell, if they're too busy with other projects, they could buy the script for what's pocket change to them and put it in a drawer for a couple of years. If could also be a great project for them to direct or produce someday since they love poker.

In case someone doesn't know what we're talking about, it's this script:

all i know is that if daniel negreanu was half the man he pretends to be on tv he'd buy your script and get this movie made.

Well the script is not candy-coated, it does have a segment on problem gambling. This segment might be a little controversial to someone like Daniel who has corporate ties. But then again Daniel was never one to shy away from controversy. Actually I believe the segment on problem gambling (which is only about 9% of the story) will actually help anyone with a gambling problem... I didn't specifically write the script to be a paid advertisement for the poker industry, I wrote it to be an entertaining drama. But I still think the majority of poker players will like this movie.

Even though I didn't write the script to be an paid advertisement for poker here is what the script's reviewer said about the script's dialogue (in his coverage):

Dialogue:

"Vegas Knights not only walks the walk, but it also talks the talk. It is written in such a way that it sounds like it generally knows a lot about poker, or at least seems to, to those who don’t. This is important because it allows the audience to feel as though the film generally loves poker as much as its characters do, which makes it all the more involving. But the dialogue also has a more subtle human quality to it. It knows that poker is just a game and that, outside of it, these are real people who face real life decisions..., confusions and health problems. Because the dialogue juggles these two elements, it makes the film accessible to not only an audience of poker fans, but those who know little about the game as well."

There are some in the gaming industry who might not like this. But scripts need emotion to be successful or otherwise they become lukewarm like "Lucky You" and nobody goes to see them. The segment is one of the most emotional parts of the movie. But with that said, it makes up only about 9% of the movie.

Bottom line is the film will show both the positive and negative aspects of gambling, but overall I think it will be a plus for poker.

the truth shall set them free. tell it like it is, VK.

Actually I don't believe a gambling themed movie that has a small segment on problem gambling should concern gaming companies any more than an auto racing movie that has a couple of racing car accidents in it should concern the auto racing industry. As Alfred Hitchcock once said when someone made a big deal about something in one of his films, "It's just a movie".

Well, it looks like no one has heard any news about Rounders 2, has anyone heard any news about the MIke Matusow movie "Checkraising the Devil"?

Doesn't look like Rounders 2 is going to be made anytime soon (if at all) from what Edward Norton said on Letterman about a month ago.

I have also heard about Rounders 2 a few months ago. But I am also not updated with this like you. Thanks for the post.

You're welcome.

btw, this link said Rounders made 70 million in profit thanks to outstanding home video sales. So the potential is definitely there for a good poker themed movie.

Every now and then, you get those little reminders of why life remains profitable for some people while others just ever seem to 'get it'.

EMH says the market is priced by geniuses. I've always disagreed with that.

any updates? i need to know.

No, but at least you have "Rocky 7" and "Fast and Furious 7" to look forward to.

Do you ever get the feeling Hollywood has run out of ideas?
