yea im really surprised the Republican vote is so NAY heavy. youd think theyd wanna keep all those billions of dollars from creeping offshore. not to mention the bill itself has been proposed and heavily pushed for by a Republican senator, dont member his name

Because, what so many of the younger people on here that think they are democrats don't realize is, (true) republicans believe that the government should stay the hell out of peoples private lives and the democrats believe that you all are too stupid to make good decisions for yourselves so they want to do your thinking for you like an overbearing mother. That is all.

I'm not surprised that some Republicans helped shoot it down. Some were upset because there were exclusions in there for horse racing and lottery, and they felt that if you were going to ban online gambling, you should just ban it with no exclusions. And a couple years ago, Jack Abramoff, that lobbyist who went to prison recently, worked over a lot of Republicans pretty hard in order to get them to back off the bill, so I'm guessing a few of them are still beholden to someone out there.I also heard that the casinos, who were backing the bill, let off a little after they heard that legislation might be proposed to just regulate and tax the industry. They were all for that.

i hope youre joking. once again, the originator of this bill is a Republican who has spent the last 5-6 years trying to ban internet gambling failing each time. each time he ammends the bill to make it a little less severe and each time it continues to fail.

Someone explain to me how this crap works - are they lobbying on amendments to the overall bill and have they not yet voted on the final bill? Or did they vote it down and now some whiners are just trying to get it re-voted on.

Did they just vote by standing on a verbal yay or nay vote to vote on the motion? I hate the government.
