Off Topic, Kinda.....

Recommended Posts

I have a niece and nephew who go to a fancy toronto daycare for jerks. At the beginning of each day, the kids are all required to stand in a perfect single-file as soon as the teachers enter the room, then approach each one individually, shake their hands and say good morning. The kids are as young as 18 months.

At our preschool, any day our 18-month old doesn't come home oozing from somewhere new or bleeding is a good day (we have not yet had a good day)

Some lighthearted talk here plus this will make sure that I can read this again sometime as it's a good story, at least for me. If it wasnt for posting all those apartment stories I would forget almos

I debated posting this, because I might be overdoing this topic this week, but I made a sort of personal promise to myself that I am going to promote more positivity and try to never be negative or pu

Danny.... Thats a great attitude to have, and you will be amazed at the progress Owen can make with that kind of attitude and persistence on your part. On Feb 4, 2003, the diagnosis I got was that

Report cards come out today for preK-5th. This was an email they sent.

"Later this week, you will be receiving a notice that first semester report cards are available for you to view online. Instructions regarding how to access reports via CranNet will be included. Brookside teachers work diligently on their reports in an effort to provide a snapshot of where each student is at the midpoint of the school year. The teachers not only focus on where a student is academically, but they also strive to communicate where a child stands with respect to social and emotional development.

For parents, it is critically important that we understand exactly the purpose of the school report. Brookside reports are intended to relay where a student’s strengths lie at this specific point in time and identify areas that will benefit from growth during the second half of the year. I can assure you that a Brookside report card will not be part of the college application package your child sends off in the future. When you read the report, please understand its purpose and keep your reactions in perspective. Your children are works in progress. Each one is doing the best that he or she can, and they are rightfully progressing at their own individual pace with the necessary levels of support from you and their teachers. With that in mind, please read the “letter” below, and remember to celebrate your child’s report and their associated accomplishments when it arrives in your inbox.

Dear Mom and Dad,

My semester report will be coming home soon. Please remember that it is just a snapshot of me that you are receiving. This picture is a time exposure that’s been developing during the past few months.

When you see my snapshot, remember this is a report of someone near and dear to you. So please don’t get upset if you see a blemish. I hope you will accept me as I am.

Please do not picture me as being better than all the other children. Remember that all children do not learn to talk or walk at the same time, nor do they learn math and reading at the same rate. I ask you not to compare me with my brother, my sister, or the child next door. You can set realistic goals for me, but please be careful not to push me to succeed at something for which I am just not ready.

I want you to understand that my progress report is a picture of me at school. My teachers know me as I am at school. You know how I am at home. The ‘real’ me is somewhere in between. When these two pictures become blended with love, acceptance, support, and understanding, I hope my snapshot will be a shining portrait.

Love,

Me

Knowing some of the parents. This is a good reminder to them.

This is really sad. This is where society is going with the politically correct bullshit. We must stop this and make America great again.

What's wrong with teaching manners and having a code to live by?

How is this sad? Why should a 5 yr old get berated by a patent for not knowing say...the numbers 1-29 yet? Beating and yelling at 7 yr olds who didn't get an achieving grade at mid term is what made America great?

During orientation last year for preK a woman comes in with her 3 yr old and starts touring how the kid can read, count to 1000, know math etc. the teachers are like year great. We don't care. PreK-K is learning about socializing and learning the fundamentals of how to learn in later years. Often I'm told some parents feel as if their 6 yr old gets a less than Achieving mark somehow will have bearing on their Ivy League acceptance. That is what's wrong.

Unless I missed your point

My kids clad learns to do this as well. It's called teaching jerky private school kids how to be polite in society and how to respect people. And it works. Everywhere we go he always says hi and asks people how they are doing. Tells them his name and ask for theirs. And shakes hands. It's fcking awesome.

What age group is most responsible for making America un-great?

It sure isnt the 4year old who is going to a daycare like this.

Its the 40/50/60 something year old American that has ruled this country for decades thats made it what it is today, and none of them went to schools like this, and none of them grew up in a politically correct world.

If there is something wrong with America, maybe changing what they always have done is a good thing.

You totally missed my point..I am not advocating obviously to berate your kid..But the commentary in that email is just stupid...Like we have to sugarcoat the grades the kids get...We have to explain to parents...

It really is stupid and if i got an email like that, I would consider pulling my kid from that school

Its mostly the liberals...

America is still great thanks to the core values, however politically correctness is trying to ruin what the country was built on..

I may have misunderstood initially about Steve's post..I assumed that was sent to all the students, not just the Pre K...

Ya absolutely, its those damn liberals!!!

"I LOVE AMERICA, AMERICA IS GREAT"

(except for 50% of the population I cant stand, who are all idiots and ruining my country)

Great line I heard once, about how someone who loves America so much, can possibly hate so many Americans.

I guess I didn't miss your point. This email is a reminder to parents not to fly off the handle and yell, beat, punish your kids because you think they are failing in some way. Because they aren't. Throughout the school year they are all learning to develop in many areas that were set at the start of the school year. While your kid may have completed 15 of these goals they still might be working towards the other 5 and the report card will reflect that. That does not mean they are failing or even remotely lagging behind.

I don't how grades work above his current grade but he gets one of three.

NE - skill not yet evident

D- the student demonstrates a developing level of skill

A- the student is achieving at the level anticipated by the end of the school year.

So of your kid gets a D or NE don't freak out. It'll come. They just aren't there yet. It's not the end of the world.

This is a school that has produced many many powerful and successful people. I will gladly find a list if you'd like. People like the guy who created Twitter. Mitt Romney, Robin Williams, And many more. They have a good idea of how to do it. People from all over the world try to get they're kids in this school. And because of that parents get a bit over the top and attack the kids and teachers. This is a simple reminder of the true big picture. This email does not go out to high schoolers, that's a different world where shit gets real.

At the risk of annoying Serge further.

News flash: Political correctness is not ruining anything, let alone your great country. Political correctness is also not unique in any way shape or form to America, so the idea that it is, or even is contributing to ruining any country is absurd.

IN MY OPINION "Politically correct" is a buzz word used mostly by people who don't like that society in general is no longer OK with them being an A-hole. The need to be "politically correct" is a natural evolution that comes along with the increased exposure we have to all walks of life, society, religion, lifestyle etc.. as our society continues to develop and our actions and words become more and more public.

Being "politically correct" is really, at it's roots about being respectful and civil. Or, as you might put it: Being a giant Pussy.

There, I hope you enjoyed my liberal, left-wing kook, panty wearing tree hugger rant.

Well then I missed the point...He is 4 obviously thats totally fine..If my 5th grader got that(which I assumed by your post) than its a little odd dont you think?

I still find it extremely condescending to me as a parent though to read that email...I would probably laugh it off..

I have never once yelled at my sons teachers, let alone yelled at my son for not trying..

However he is a straight A student, and if he comes home with a B, (like happened recently) we sit down and figure out why..He did bring it back up to an A

I'm Pretty much a liberal and I don't hate anyone. You're grossly mistaken of what a liberal is. I'm starting to get tired of the insults towards my ideologies. You won't find me taking many shots at conservatives. I have my thoughts but I try very hard to keep them to myself. I'm not angry or anything but saying that I'm starting to get a bit offended. :)

I would imagine part of that letter was also like "hey, don't you all come whining and yelling at the teacher if we give an assessment you don't agree with", maybe even more so than the idea of getting angry at the kid.

Awesome. Just awesome.

I'm tempted to print this out, frame it somewhere that everyone can see it, and maybe it will give them some thought.

You are truly a good guy Dave.
