daniel's distractions

Was noticing that the more "business ventures" Daniel has had lately has "results wise" proved to be a distraction.I say results wise because I am not trying to make assumptions about his committment to the game here. This could be all coincidental (with the increasing fields, it's hard to even cash twice in a row).But I have noticed that Daniel's career has become significantly more business oriented in the last six months, as he is playing many less tournaments and focusing much more on other ventures. (Radio, TV, video game, ambassador).Daniel is a stand-up guy and will no doubt be the face of poker in the latter half of 2005, but I was wondering how people think this will effect his tournament play.When Hellmuth started making more money off the tables, he became more of a target for other players and his results have suffered since.And Daniel, do you think your recent successes make it more difficult for you to build stacks in tournament play given all the players that would like to bust you, maybe just to get on TV?

I think of Daniels so called distractions as his insurance to longevity.Take Doyle Bruson and Super System and other books. I am sure writing and promoting these books were a distraction of sorts through his career. However, he still plays with the highest of rollers and you see him on the circuit. I think these business and book deals allow a pro to change gears, rethink their game, recharge their batteries then come back refreshed and reenergized.To compare what Daniel is doing to what Phil has done is not really fair. The mindset of these two men are so different. Daniel accepts and even welcomes change (this is the feeling I get from his blogs. I do not know Daniel, so I could be totally off bass.) Phil appears to get flustered with it. It seems like when Phil tried to focus back on his game, the whole style of play changed. Daniel, on the other hand, seems to take a mental break and comes back with a greater awareness of the pulse of poker and how the game is played now... not 10 years ago. If Daniel didn't do all of the things he does, most of us would have no clue about this site. Yet, we have been here to cheer him on with many occasions. That is pretty cool in my book.

Well I think he knows Poker will always be there. He's getting to do things only we could dream about, so of course he's going to take advantage of that. He'll be fine
