Just me or are poker players UNABLE to sleep?

Recommended Posts

I work a pretty regular job as a salesman, i have the luxary or not having to work till around noon-ish. i could TRY to go to bed at a decent hour everynight. For some reason i just can't seem to sleep till around 5am. My Girlfriend says its cause of the all-nighters i have playin cards...Think its healthy? or am i just an average poker player doing most of his reading/studying/Playing at night =)?Chris

I work a 9-5 and run two businesses as well, so I can't pull all night poker sessions during the week very often; at least not without consequence. However I do find that I have problems sleeping because I am thinking about my play on the current night.More common is that I sit and simulate hands in my head and toss and turn over and over.... Ooh look, AQs in late position, I'm going to raise here.... then i get re-raised.... wtf? What kinda dream is that! Lol.... Everynight I tell ya!

I too have trouble sleeping after I play. When you have trouble do what I do. Think about playing in the WSOP and floping a Royal Flush and raking in huge pots!!! That generally puts me right to sleep with a smile on my face!ScottKansas City

A lot of times friends of mine and myself go to our local casino after working all day and we stay there until we have to work the following day. Then sometimes we go back after that. There was one trip we took and we went back and fourth from work to the casino 6 days in a row before we about died in the car by falling asleep, then we decided it was break time. That week together the 5 of us made about $190,000 combined. Good times.

There's one thing you all have to understand. People who play poker on a regular basis are poker players by heart. They (we) can do it every day and every night and there's nothing we'd rather be doing. On the other hand, there's people who have day jobs and want to lead a boring life :D . If you are one the formentioned persons then you find yourself in the same situation as the rest of us!Poker players can't sleep! It's not in their genes! I, like the rest of you, find myself tired until I see or even think about cards. I remember when I first started playing back in high school I would get off my restaurant job at 11, go home and take a shower, then hop in my car for the hour drive down to the local indian casino and play till the sun came up! Then I would drive back to town to go to school. I did this four days a week and more. It's just in our blood...

Ive had insomnia for about 5 months now. The worst 5 months I can imagine. everything seems like one continuos day, and I find myself saying "didnt that happen earlier today?", only to have someone replay "no, dude, that was two days ago". Its tough, but im not a fan of taking the ambien ive been prescribed, so i try and tough it out. lots of late nights at the online tables though. I hope this pays off, :D haha

yeah, my days seem to consist of class at 7-10-and 1. then its studyng/work, friends for dinner, maybe some poker, and then up all night until about 3 or 4 a.m. this happens way too often. but for some reason, im not doing much to change my schedule. almost as if I've finally just adapted to it. This cant be healthy.:D
