  1. Hi all..I was playing in my weekly STT style home game with 8 of my poker buddies. We all have played a looooot of poker together, and we really know each other very well. In this game we all bought in for a specific amount of money, and it was winner takes all.I was chipleader a while ago, but took 2 bad beats to lose most of my chips. Then this hand came up:I was not sure of the chipcounts of the other players on the table at that time, but the average chipcount was somewhere around 6000.This was how the hand was initially played.Blinds are at 100/200UTG (Villian): limps in (chipcount: appro
  2. I hate it when players give up on hands too easily. You might be out of position here, but as Gus Hansen says "I'm in first position to bluff at it". You raised/called preflop. You can easily have A-K, K-Q suited. That K might not have hit him. I believe this was an online hand, and from my online experience, people WILL RERAISE WITH J-J and Q-Q. He could have a hand like A-Q suited too. Of course he can have A-K or A-A or K-K. I wouldn't give up here. I will take a stab. I might have the best hand, and he might have missed. I would bet something like two-thirds the pot size on the flop. I wil
  3. The first hand is a definite fold.First of all, I didnt like the huge raise with 10-10 in here. 4BB is just too much for pocket 10 UTG. But well, I am a tight player, and I guess you could justify that raise. So regardless, your raise says I HAVE A HUGE HAND, and this guy reraises! He has you! He is not raising with 9-9 or 8-8, he is not raising with A-Q, he might raise with A-K or K-K or maybe even A-A. Looking at the situation, you are a 4-1 dog (if he has a bigger pair) or a slight favorite. I don't like the situation. I'd muck it immediately. The second hand, I think you are beat, at least
  4. I like your reply very much, makes perfect sense to me, but the way I was playing against this opponent was tight, and letting him pick up many small pots, then I come back and win a huge one. It was working fine, and in this hand, I was planning on throwing it away on the flop, unless I got extremely lucky, and flopped 2 pair or a set.
  5. I'll fold this in early position! It is a strong hand, and you do need to make some steals. But if you're called, you're probably an underdog. The only cards that may call u are A-K, or a pocket pair. If a pair, you're just a small underdog, but still you'll need help. If A-K, you're dominated. So probably fold here, wait for a better hand, in better position.Although if the table is tight, then you may consider pushing, but I wouldn't.
  6. Hi everyone, just want to know if in this hand I trapped myself, or it was just bad luck and I was definetely going to lose all my money..I am playing in my weekly home game. Its a 6 handed game, but we play winner takes all.. so there has to be 1 winner, kind of a single table tourney.Other players are very loose and aggressive. My usual style is aggressive too, but against these guys I change to conservative, which I feel works great against them.We were down to heads up play, me and Villian. He had almost a 5-1 chiplead at the start of heads up, but after just a few hands, I doubled up, won
  7. Before thinking of my options, I'd like to think of what The Grinder actually may have, and only then come up with the best play.First he called a raise pre-flop. What could he have called with? A middle pocket pair, or K-Q, or even A-J or A-10 suited. I don't think he would only call with a high pocket pair, or A-K or even A-Q, he would probably reraise, he doesnt want to play the other chip leader heads up, and might be happy to not lose a lot of chips on this hand, and just force me out.On the flop, he called. I think this eliminates the chances we are against a hand like A-10 or A-J, as he
  8. Hey everyone, this is a hand I want to discuss with you. I am not sure if I did the right move here.I was playing with a bunch of my friends a low stakes cash game. Blinds were 2-4$. It was a 6 handed game, and I played with these same players many times, so I know their game very well.UTG raised it to 8$. I know he is a very weak and loose player. It was folded to me (on the button), and i looked down at 9 J . I loved my hand.Playing against the loose player, I knew I had a chance of beating him easily, and I had position over him!I wanted to isolate myself with him. So I raised to 16$, and
  9. If I were in your position, I would not have moved in. You are out of position and you have no idea where the other two are at. It seems likely that one of the other two guys might have A-8s or A-6s. There is a straight draw, but what are the chances of someone calling your raise with 7-5, or 7-9? Not too likely I think. So, the best you could hope for is someone with a lower kicker than yours. Remember it is also posible someone flopped a set. If I was in your position, I will make a small tester bet. Maybe half the pot size or even less. If I get raised, just call, and look at the next card.
  10. Hey guys, I have just started playing poker a few months ago, and am getting good at it. I want to improve my game. I read Erik Lindgren's book - to improve my tournament play. I now want to read another book, that teaches hand to hand poker. I am considering SuperSystem. I heard its the best. What do you think? Any other good suggestions? And if SuperSystem is good, should I read 1 before I read 2, or is it fine if I just read SuperSystem 2 directly???Tareq
  11. Ok, this is a hand i played in a tournament. I am not sure if my play was good or not?It was a small buy-in tournament, and the first 5 places get paid. I wasn't there for the money, I was there for the first place. It is late in the tourney, and 6 players are remaining, which means after 1 player busts, the rest get in the money!I was short-stacked with almost 1800 chips, and was in 5th place at the time. The short-stack had almost 1000 chips. The blinds were 200-100, no antes. In this hand, I had 5s-5d. Not bad for a short-handed game I thought. I was under the gun, and thought of moving in h
  12. Well, he bet the pot size, which means he did not flop the nuts most probably. If he had pocket sevens, fours, or an over pair, he will probably bet small, maybe half the pot size, to try to keep me in. If he had a monster like a set of Jacks, he probably will check, to try and trap me. So, I could only guess he has A-K, and try to buy the pot right here, and if I call he will still be in good shape. Or he might have A-J, and he is trying to protect his Jacks with the top kicker with that big bet.I definitely will not fold in here. My nines are still not too bad. If I hit a 9 on the turn, I co
  13. What I will do in tourneys, especially early on, is try to attack the fish on the table, with any 2 cards. And stay away from the aggressive players, unless I have premium hands. These are some guidelines that I think are helpfull for playing tournaments..-If I had a premium hand, I will play very aggressively, trying to beat aggressive players for a lot of chips.-If preflop, a loose-passive player raised me, and I have position over him post flop (ie. Im not in the blinds), I will re-raise with any 2 cards. I have played pots with 6-4 off-suit in this situation, and believe me it works if you
