Am I Truely Playing These Hands Wrong?

Recommended Posts

So I have been getting in this situation a lot recently and it seems to be giving me a negative result most of the time. The situation is me holding a middle-big pair against an early-mid position raise by a loose aggresive player who has raised 3-5x the BB. Because of the nature of the opponent and opportunity to pick up not only the blinds but a raise from a loose opponent who I have been reraising all in. My play is made based on the read of the opponent having a weak Ace which gives me a pair against one over. The trouble is that people have been calling me a lot on this and sure enought they have one over card which they end up hitting at some point. So my question is am I playing this wrong even though I am making the correct read and if so how should I change up this play?

i think it kinda depends on how deep the stacks are, if your with 30bbs plus and so is he, and due to his agressive nature, you can always call assuming he has A rag type of hand and exploit the situation on the flop, given you have position on him like you said. i think theres no need to be eager to put all the chips in the middle, although its obvious you're running bad against 3 outters, eventually you will start winning them, but i guess its not an optimal play for all stack sizes possible, and considering your read to be solid, i guess with 20 bbs or less i'm shoving there too, with a deeper one i think its ok to call his raise and under represent the strength of your hand and exploit the situation on the flop. with 10's or Jacks i'm calling if we're deep, with 8's or 9's maybe i'm tri betting him like 2.3-2.5 times his raise

You are getting called when you have the best hand, then suffering a bad-beat, and losing your stack. From an odds perspective, you did everything right. You could play the hand a lot slower, and simply call the loose-raiser. I think that's more of a small-ball play, where you have a good idea of what his cards are preflop, but want to outsmart him post-flop. Or you could call and just hope for a set on the flop. Regardless, your play seems fine, and should be profitable long-term.

Thanks for the reinforcement. I forgot to mention that it is occuring more when I have 15-20 BBs. Glad it is more me just running bad than poor play to at least one person.
