I think you would admit that there is a significant difference between going up to someone and saying, "If you don't worship God, you will spend eternity in hell" versus saying, "If you don't worship God, I will kill you," the latter being what we were talking about.I could be wrong about this, but I have a hard time believing that the Bible instructs Christians to kill the heathens. The OT is only brought up when atheist want to try to imply that the organization that has built more hospitals, soup kitchen, homeless shelters and poverty outreach centers then anything else throughout history, is bad.They have so little to work with when it comes to bragging about their side that they are stuck trying to tear down the other.Meanwhile we keep on building hospitals, sending people to help impoverished places, and praying for the best possible things for them.Except me, I point out that communism is the only example of a godless society we have and they've done 10 times more horrible things in their first 50 years than anything all Christians have done combined throughout history.

The OT makes it pretty clear that only the Jews are worthy (a fact which has gone to their heads), and that when it serves them they should kill and mistreat those from outside the tribe. Worshipping other gods is as bad as killing according to the ten commandments. Yahweh does plenty of smiting of non-Jews. This is from Deuteronomy:"If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers;" (Deuteronomy 13: 6)"Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him: But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people."But again, the Christians have in their favor they do not mind logical contradiction, so they can reject the parts of the OT they don't like. As a result, the compulsion to kill non-believers does not tend to manifest in modern Christians. Hence, this exchange:

The hospitals wouldn't be of much value if science hadn't rejected the claims of the bible. Also, if the pope has his way, the hospitals will be too filled with people battling AIDS to handle much else.

Why would we reject part of history that shows the complete story. It seems that you are the one choosing to ignore the full story, the completion of the Law under Christ.

Pretty much every major advancement of science was made by Christians who were trained in Christian schools for most of history.All except the silly evolution theory that is falling apart with every new discovery of the complexity of life.
